There can be various reasons.

* many reports say he is actually quite good in the role (not a surprise, it's a variation of him)

* it's easy to forget that tattle is a bit of a bubble, and to vast majority of audiences won't know or care what he is like and his outbursts have only reached a very tiny corner of the internet

* they may have struggled to find a replacement or who they wanted wasn't available. Sometimes it's not because the person in the role is necessarily wanted more.
Yep. It's a lot of point 1 & 2 I'd bet. I haven't seen him in Hamilton but he was absolutely fantastic in Waitress and in Chicago. I do think the Tattle bubble is a big issue when it comes to overthinking how the musical theatre industry works. Yes, Joel ranting in costume isn't great. But ultimately the audience for that and proportion of people who give a tit is so small compared to the proportion of people who want to see Hamilton and don't actually care about the people behind the roles. It's such a commercial machine now that even non-theatre people will see it. It's not like the more cult theatre shows that are smaller / less known / rely much more heavily on reputation in more nuanced ways.

Obv I still think he's a prick in many regards. But I sadly can't fault him as a performer.

Although, worth highlighting that those roles he has excelled at are all basically sides of his own personality. That's why he is good at them. I don't think he is particularly talented, but is good at a specific type of role

4. they have to find a King for the tour cast as well and maybe the star name is doing that.

5. he may have a very good agent

6. he may have agreed a lower fee than others wanted

7. "better the devil you know" etc - no need to remake costumes etc

8. they have cast His Wife as one of the Schuyler Sisters for Box Office Glory #couplescasting #soproud :ROFLMAO:

Yeah Rodney was even worse than Carrie tbh. How he got another role baffles several people
wow really? I'm only on his IG .. so didn't see any tweets. he's a talented nice guy in my experience but admit there's a lot of drama around that show i probably wasn;t party to as a non Carrie/ALW fan

EDIT i just checked his twitter can't see anything really contentious . Obviously a few discreetly worded pissed off tweets about the show ending the way it did for the cast but who can blame them? that was a crappy thing to do to people

Guys, I am confused. This isn’t a repost is it?? So is Joel just saying about himself that he is the best King George!?

Maybe nothing there now but he was a walking nightmare in his stories. A spoiled brat and was very unprofessional. Maybe check out the Cinderella thread in Theatreboard for more.
Social media is not the place to vent however badly you allegedly think you’ve been treated. It’s not a good look. Word at the time was he was the problem, was very entitled backstage and didn’t like getting called out on his behaviour (pre all the ALW stuff)
Any way back to Carrie...

Potentially. But the same can be said for many actors who are type cast (the rock, Ryan Reynolds etc etc). Doesn't take away from the fact that he actually suits the role of King George!

Agreed, a lot of actors book roles off a look or archetype unless you're a chameleon/blank slate. Joel is hardly going to get cast as Marius but I can see how he'd do well in the roles he is picked for.

I would of thought that as an actor, you would want a slightly bigger role then 12 mins on stage every night. I cant think it would be very satisfying at all. He probably went for other things, didn't get them, and when they offered a new contract jumped at it. As was said they need a stable bread winner at the moment.

I dunno, if I was getting paid (what seems like) loads to only work for 12 mins a day as one of the most memorable characters in one of the biggest shows I think I'd be alright about it.

For a while I'd enjoy it but doing that kind of role for more than a year can't be very fulfilling

I guess it's no different to being in a soap for decades, or even office work staying at same level doing same job. Some people aren't ambitious, or just like getting a good steady income for relatively easy work. Especially when you don't know where the next role is coming from.

This is what I like about here. Yes, we don't like Joel or his behaviour or the way he acts on social media.. BUT... We are fair and honest and can actually admit that he is good in his role and suits it. That doesn't change the fact that he is the biggest walking ICK ever though.
