Callie Thorpe - plus sized cringe-fest

1
I have absolutely no idea why she calls it the farmer's market, it's literally a street market. When I lived here the plastic tubs were like a quid each but you had to eat it all ASAP cos it'd turn in hours/days.

Omg it was like the fruit KNEW when it had been bought and immediately started to rot. The lady at the Elephant and Castle stall used to bollock me because I just used to get a banana and an apple and clearly ruined her careful bowl system, but you just can't eat that much fruit by yourself in a lunch hour!

Funny cos she acts all ~woke online but also loves pushing this gentrifier narrative on insta stories.

So yeah... it is just like any other bloody market in any other city in the U.K.

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

The thing that pisses me off with the 'omg its pennies' is how purposefully deceitful the whole thing is. Aff programs aren't open with their %s but having worked adjacent to this stuff, I'd say the average is 3%, but can be up to 10%. Some are even up to 50% (these will be super low brow retailers though like your flat tummy teas & chewable vitamins).

But some maths yeah, let's take our worst case 3%:

* Callie shares a £10 lazy susan. That's £0.30 per purchase, yes it's pennies, but 100 girls buy it... she's made £30.
* Mother of daughters shares her £4k bathroom sink, 1 person buys it. That's £120.
* Hinch shares a £15 mop, she gets £0.45 per purchase and 10k of her audience buy it, that's £4.5k.

And yep that doesn't include anything else in your basket. This is for minutes of work generating an aff link for a product & sharing on insta stories. All v different situations but certainly not mere pennies, the idea that you'd go through all the bother of an aff link to make a few pence is ridiculous? It's insulting how thick they think we are.
YESSS!!!
Honestly thank you for doing the maths because I do think people need to see how these pennies add up!

That has killed me off. It looks like a lovely market, my town has a similar one and I love going there but I wouldn’t call it a farmers market, it is just a normal market, some fruit and veg and some tat for sale (I love the tat stalls!!)
And the gentrifier angle is so important to think about actually. The area I live in is up and coming and I love it, I worry about it becoming too gentrified though as it’s really changed in the 6 years i’ve Lived there!

All this mindless posting of BLM information that so many of them are doing. Juneteenth was yesterday but suddenly there is an influx of them posting it this morning her included.! If I needed any further proof that most have just jumped on the bandwagon that is it right there !!

I know ....it would mean so much more if there was some thought around it, rather than just spamming their accounts with as much info as they can find. Less is more, sometimes.

To be fair to her I think the one she always bangs on about is this one, which is only there on Sundays: https://www.lfm.org.uk/markets/walthamstow/
Interesting that on that website it’s asking people to go alone and get their shopping done quickly - what will she do without Dan&I for 5mins!

She will either stay at home and send Dan&I or he will get a few mins to have some private time 😆🍆

‘Get comfortable being uncomfortable’ followed by a load of luxurious pics? Eh? Also Juneteenth was yesterday love.

Yes, she really does like to push the faux-gentrified location stuff, as if it reflects well on her. Kidding no-one haha

Also, did she not do a BLM ‘blackout’? That square has disappeared from her Insta I think?

I always come away from her Insta feeling a bit sad for her - she’s a bit tragic. She is looking really unwell in her latest stories. All this sitting around to do basic tasks is concerning.

I agree, she’s doesn’t look well at all, I am all for being comfortable in your skin but all the weight she is carrying can’t be good for her joints and must struggle to do quite a bit. Not saying she needs to be a size 10 but once you can’t stand in the kitchen to make a meal something has to give surely!
I know, I was a size 24 and was always happy regardless of my size but I started to struggle to a lot and have since lost 6stone (I am still overweight tbh) and have so much more energy and can do everything!

Callie has put a lot on in a short space of time which is never good.

But when you’re sent free clothes for being fat, paid to model, and seen as inspiring for it... you’ve kinda got to... stay fat?
If she lost weight that quickly that she hadn’t changed her sizes she could clip the clothes in the back like you would in a wedding dress fitting! But considering a lot of plus size ranges start in a 16-18, then you could probably lose some weight and still be ok !

I wonder if some of the more radical of the plus size community would berate her for losing weight. They call the 16-20 range “small fats”. Every time she posts a photo in a little black bikini (always black for some reason) she gets the 🔥 comments and so much love. Including comments from Simpering Dan. I do wonder if she feels a pressure to stay bigger. she’s in a strange position really.

Maybe, I don’t agree with giving anyone flack for being smaller than me though. I do think there is a certain amount of privilege for smaller people on the plus scale, I’m a 22 but I’m still able to buy things in Zara and from other high street places straight size range (now they do xl in Zara at least). I don’t need a seatbelt extender usually and stuff like that. So I get the need to categorize to an extent, the bigger you are, the harder things can be, like booking travel and even sitting in the cinema etc.
I’m not sure the categorization is necessarily a derogatory thing, some over a certain weight is a super fat and I’ve not heard that used as a derogatory by the community in the same way I haven’t for small fat!

Yeah I know what you mean but I think that she may even get more work if she lost weight, not all the followers would leave because she lost weight, I think most would stay!

Has she mentioned losing weight ? All I ever hear her bang on about is all the healthy food they eat!! They certainly eat very well and in large quantities from what I have seen her posting throughout lockdown. In order to maintain the size she is her calorie intake is way higher than her exercise output. We all know how it works ! Only person she is kidding is herself if that's the case.

And on the clothes comment, she rarely posts outfit pics these days and appears to live in the same old grubby black outfits, even the recent beach trip when it was gloriously sunny she was in black leggings !! Not something anyone aspires to. Her days as a serious flogger of clothing are long gone !

The long floaty dresses and those hideous clumpy trainers she wore to death with everything just didn't do it for me ! 🥴

those trainers were horrendous! She has not ‘influenced’ me to wear a certain piece of clothing in a very long time! Coming from someone who used to be very large I don’t understand how they can want to be the size they are! I felt absolutely horrible and I was about callies size!

I've been there too and life is difficult when you are carrying all that excess weight especially in this heat ! You can see how unwell she is in the bloated ness of her face and in her complexion. Sadly extreme weight does catch up with you eventually, bad knees are a big one and anyone who is extremely over weight as she is will be on borrowed time with them.
