Call the Midwife #3

For 1970 I’d like to see a fertility centre opened adjacent to the Maternity Home led by Dr Turner and his God Complex escalates to the point he starts fertilising women with his own semen and fathers half the babies born in Poplar that year.

And all those babies become doctors too because of Dr Turner’s super sperm! 😆🤮

A family member had 3 births in the 60s and 70s all at home (2 twin births too) as she had a fear of hospitals.
I wonder if many areas did 'switch over' to hospital deliveries but because Poplar had the resource of the community midwife service linked to nonnatius house and was shown to be effective it just carried on until presumbly health authority rules closed it?
It is after all based on some truth in Jennifer worths memoirs.

I was born at home in the 70s.
I think most of my peer group were born in hospital though.

Yeah, the first few series were based on her books.
I think the first few series are realistic, but it has just been dragged on a bit too much.

God, Matthew is genuinely a terrible actor. He’s been to the Joey Tribbiani ‘smell the fart’ school of acting.

With Shelagh looking on in awe: “oh Patrick!”

These all made me lol so much 😂

I don’t think I’ve been paying much attention to this show for a while. I thought Vi’s Haberdashers had become a newsagent and now it’s a Haberdasher again, I didn’t realise they had two shops. :ROFLMAO:

I can’t wait for Matthew to bugger off. At least he hasn’t left his son with Trixie so she can still work.

Is Lucille just never to be mentioned again? And that turnip pile looked like a child’s drawing!

I honestly thought Matthew was going to leave Jonty with Trixie. Glad he has taken him to NY.

Glad to see Trixie's brother will be making another appearance. I know many weren't keen on the character but I love him!

I wonder if Cyril will chase off Joyce's husband and they'll share 'a look' over the tyre chain then, next season, there'll be one episode that he's all sad as he and Lucille are divorced then he'll start sniffing around Nurse Highland properly.

On the whole, this series has been better than last actually. I notice that the credits now say 'created by Heidi Thomas, written by Lisa Holdsworth' so maybe that's got something to do with it.

Gahh the over explain-y dialogue is driving me mad lately. Sorry if it's been brought up already, I haven't caught up on the thread as I'm watching now so don't want to spoil but I had to pause and moan - the scene where Trixie is asking if Chester (who we know is in America) called yet and Matthew says no he won't call til late as he's out to dinner and Trixie goes "ah yes, the time difference" 🤦‍♀️ we already knoooooow. It felt so unnecessary and shoehorned in!

Another moan jesus this writing 🤦‍♀️ pethidine at 8cm?? No chance lol surely Dr Hero of the Day knows pethidine is an opioid and would cross the placenta, affecting the baby when given that late in labour.
