yeah, babs claim that lip syncing along to their own pre-recorded singing means the kids were less anxious - to me, it would be far more anxiety-inducing to have to mime, trying to get the timing right etc.

also, it's a school play - not a West end show. the kids are aged 10/11 - putting them under so much pressure that they aren't even allowed to sing in stage as they might not do it perfectly is pretty extreme. surely the emphasis should be more on the having fun and enjoying the performance than perfection and teaching them that to make a mistake would ruin the whole show, plus it hardly gives the kids confidence that their teachers have any belief in them if they don't let them sing on stage!
