I do wonder now about a lot of the 90s women who got written off as ‘difficult’ ‘bitches’ and so forth.

Women were expected to laugh along with the most obnoxious misogynistic bullshit then, I suspect a lot of these supposed ‘bitches’ were just forthright about their boundaries and had opinions of their own.

People often never wrote what exactly about these women was meant to be the problem. Some might have just annoyed the guys making the judgements.

I mean, I’m sure that there were some entitled jerks too, but ‘nice’ in many cases seems to have also meant ‘pliable’, and a lot of these girls have not ended up in a good place. I imagine you’d have to have some bolshiness and ego to you to actually survive that sort of environment without disintegrating.

You're joking right? Taylor Swift could never have pulled off any of Britney's earlier tours. The poor girl looks like she's having a seizure when she tries a hip roll.



Swift is a different artist. She writes her own songs which is commendable and has developed a cult of personality based on consistent fan interaction since her debut. She pulls her personal life into her music which keeps her fans interested and feeling engaged. And it works, because Swifties are cultish in their devotion to her.

But she's not Primeney. No amount of mental illness or shit choices can get rid of what prime Britney was. You couldn't stick Taylor Swift next to Madonna or Michael Jackson or Aerosmith, because she'd be outshone since she lacks the charisma that Britney once had. Nobody gave a fuck that Brit couldn't sing because she performed. Her performances are part of pop culture - from the snake performance of Slave, to the downfall of the Gimme More 2007 VMA, you reference them and people do remember them. No non-Swiftie can recall an iconic Taylor Swift performance.

A true star ??? She had a few good years miming while dancing...no real talent going on. While some might remember the 'iconic' miming performances there are just as many that dont. Britney is no princess of pop!

What rules did she break .... Dumping her kids? Being a druggie?

It's entirely possible that Britney is mental now and was great then.

Christina Aguilera is fine and has many good qualities. Whitney Houston she is not.

Taylor Swift has both enormous talent and various limitations.

I mean Michael Jackson had every talent in the world and might have also been a paedophile.

Seems like you can't go anywhere without hearing about Taylor Bloody Swift 😆 I couldn't give a rats ass about how great her shows are, how she writes her own songs, whatever. I'd play any of Britney's early stuff over Taylor any day of the week. And yes, Britney being a train wreck now doesn't take away from the fact that she was once amazing at what she did

Go look at the Taylor Swift one if you want to see a rave thread. It's where you should have been all along really.

Current Britney is a very mentally ill woman who's unlikely to ever perform live again. Prime Britney was an incredible performer that had a lot of Max Martin's best songs ever in her catalogue, though admittedly lacked in voice, and her performances have impacted pop culture to the point we remember some of them 20 years later. So far the same cannot be said for Taylor Swift.

I'm illiterate so my arguments are almost certainly moot. But TS is only 33 and has been consistently successful since 2008, has a bazillion awards and is still going strong.

Britney definitely has impacted pop culture - by being portrayed as the sexy virgin and famously having a breakdown. Now, even whilst clearly suffering through mental illness/addiction, her fans will not let her rest.

She's a cautionary tale, not the icon you think she is.

(And both she, and Christina, were only ever on stage with Madge for the risqué kissing - Madonna definitely knows her audience)

Original statement was that Britney couldn't do what TS does on the Eras tour. I responded that TS could not have done what Britney did on any of her early tours either. TS realistically couldn't do what Britney did on the early days of the Vegas residency where she was stiff as a board and we all thought it was going to go badly. And I can't name a single live TS performance that's memorable. Even Britney's shittest one was memorable enough that South Park made an episode on it.

Britney clearly doesn't want to rest. I doubt her fans could make her do anything at this point. Otherwise she'd be back in the studio making Blackout 2.0, not tits out on Insta. Yet here we are. Now fuck off back to the TS thread.
