I’m late to the party as usual, but I’ve read 84/75 books this year. I usually read 100+ but I’m not going to increase my target or put pressure on myself. I’m hoping to read a Christmas book though at least 😂

My top 5 reads of the year are:

1. The Hearts Invisible Furies by John Boyne
2. We Were The Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter
3. In Memorium by Alice Winn
4. Weyward by Emilia Harrison’s
5. Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler

I’ve finished A Little Life this morning. I feel a sense of relief that I’ve got through it but also sadness that it’s over 💔

It took me five months to read a third and then I’ve read the rest in five weeks since watching the cinema screening. That’s not all in one go though, I broke it down into sections between other reads.

I just wondered what people thought of Jude’s family and friends keeping him alive? There were times I wish they’d just let him go, particularly after Willem died and he lost all of the weight. Does anyone else feel this way or do they wish he lived?

every year i say i’ll reread it and every year i’m just not emotionally ready for it 😭

i felt much the same about your spoiler, especially after willem’s death. like, how much more could one person take? i also felt like jude lacked agency through so much of his life, or had the ability to make decisions for himself taken away, that i sorta wished that everyone would stop telling him what they WANTED him to do and let him take some control. i understand it’s a natural reaction to someone you love and want to keep safe though. but i did feel a sort of exhale for him at the end.

I've got Britney on hold at the library, looking forward to it!

Feel as though daily deals have picked up again recently - I'm thinking of getting 73 Dove Street
no no don't say that... I am having to pay for a trip to NYC soon so will be trying to cut spending on even essentials..... believe me if I could walk to Central london from Zone 6 id be doing it to save a tenner on in office days

I went to buy a physical copy of Britney’s autobiography in a bookshop in London today and they were sold out 😂 wonder if she’ll outsell Spare?

I’ve seen a few people say In Memoriam - I thought it was a beautiful, haunting, excellently written book, but I don’t think I enjoyed it if that makes sense? I can see why it’s raved about so much, but it was so dark and sad and graphic.

Yes I totally get that! I think for me, the characters felt so real and they will stay with me for a long time. I forget a lot of the books I read and I was like um what when I looked back on my GR reading challenge but In Memoriam was still vivid to me if that makes sense. If a book makes me cry it usually ends up being at least 4*s as it’s made me care!
