Has anyone started watching the TV adaptation of Lessons in Chemistry? I loved the book and have been really looking forward to watching but I'm waiting for more episodes to be available so I can binge.

I've also just seen a clip for Eileen, it looked good and I didn't know it was a book so have added that to my TBR.

I watched Where the Crawdads Sing last night, I know it's a bit marmite, but I liked it, but do prefer the book.

What other book to TV/movie adaptation do others recommend?

My target was 90 and I reached it at the end of September. Now on my 92nd and 93rd books. I want to make it over 100 by the end of the year - it’ll be the first time I’ve read over 100 in a year ever!
I do wish I’d kept track of my DNFs this year as I feel like they far outweigh ones I finished, I’ve just not been in the mood for anything since the end of July!

Has anyone started watching Lessons in Chemistry? I loved the book last year and so far loving the tv adaptation!

Normal People!!

(Would it be a new book thread if I didnt bring this up?)

I’m assuming we can do some Lessons About Chemistry tv chat here since the book was a book club pick last year and there’s bound to be some crossover discussions from what happened in the book to what happens in the tv show….

At the start of episode 1 there’s a very quick shot of Calvin running out in front of a car and suddenly his death from the book came flooding back to me and I thought “uh oh, that’s definitely some foreshadowing going on!” Roll forward to the end of episode 2 and off Calvin goes for his run with Six Thirty (who is so cute!) after a nice lovey dovey chat with Elizabeth and the lovely happy music starts….bam, bus! It was gut wrenching even though I knew it was coming!! I remember being floored by it in the book and seeing it on screen had the same effect. The shot was reminiscent of scenes from Final Destination and One Day.

Oooh. I have that book waiting to be read. Maybe I will read it next as I hate watching the TV series/film first.

I've been a bit behind on the book threads but just wanted to say for those who are on Netgalley I've noticed the new Terry Hayes books is available for request.
So even if you don't get the ARC for those who've been waiting the last ten-odd years the time have finally come 😆
I saw this and requested it too! And then have preordered it! Something still feels too good to be true because Amazon were like we’ll email you the realise date but it has one 😂 I’m desperate for it

I mainly read on my kindle but I think I need to physically have that book in my hands to believe it exists!!

So I have preordered the new Terry Hayes with my local independent bookshop.

I asked her if it was actually happening this year and she said she can place orders for it now, where previously she couldn't!

I’ve got 52 as my target but only on 21 but I’m signed off sick at the moment so nows my chance to catch up.

Just finished ‘The List’. Thought it was an interesting premise but I was finished with the story about half way through and thought the very end let it down a bit.

Absolutely fair. Its like a unicorn. I think I will pre order it too but I have the paperback of I am Pilgrim so they wont match.

I'd love to know everyone's top five books they've read so far this year.

My top five (in no particular order):

1. Before My Actual Heart Breaks
2. Beartown
3. Us Against You
4. You Be Mother
5. The Most Fun We Ever Had

ooo mine would be (so far, again in no order)

1. the marriage portrait
2. the whalebone theatre
3. cleopatra and frankenstein
4. i’m sorry you feel that way
5. ninth house

We have talked for so long about Terry Hayes' second book. It almost feels unreal that it might actually be finally happening. I'll pre-order with Bert's Books.

I am reading book 181 for the year. But as I have said before I am (still) in hospital and in bed 95% of the time. A 350ish page book is a day and a half read. I read a physical book the majority of the time but I do have a Kindle and probably read a handful of books of that a month.
