Will listen later.

Nikki Bedi yesterday on Radio 4 Saturday Live, insisting that durian - the very smelly fruit - was called jackfruit over here. She had to apologise later on and say she was wrong. I find her exceedingly more annoying every time I hear her.

I checked- he’s 78.
78 and showing no sign of stopping.
Love him

Not happened to me yet. Yesterday I heard Crossing Continents - Hunting Syria’s War Criminals which is worth a listen. Yesterdays’s You and Yours was good /and informative.
I had my Michael's mixed up today, it was Michael Rosen that I heard on Word of Mouth at 4pm.
I swear Mosley is haunting me

Today on Early Breakfast, BBC London, Jason Rosam was discussing old fashioned sayings (as did Vanessa Feltz later on) and someone wrote in or called in to say ‘no ticky, no laundry’ ( also no ticky, no washy)He said he’d never heard of it before but it’s rather racist towards the Chinese immigrant community. It derives from when lots of laundries in the US were run by Chinese immigrants. You needed the ticket they had given you to pick up your washing and their accent was being mocked. Therefore someone could say it now if you don’t have the necessary paperwork/receipt to pick something up now like a prescription. I can imagine Giles Coren loving this or even saying it now. I know I’ve heard the term in a movie. I almost phoned his programme to tell him of this fact, but I was half asleep. He really should have checked.

Robert Elms is crowdfunding for his next book. Info on his Insta account. Have you heard of crowdfunding for a book?

That will be giving Jo 'Grabby' Good ideas! Using her BBC radio show to push her YouTube channel where she shills for freebies and affiliate links when she could be pulling in cold hard cash from her stans - if only she could write a sentence more than five words long 😂

Top tier for RE's book is £1k, minimum is £10. And there's merch or you can attend the book launch for £120.

I wonder if he'll try to sneak in mentions of the book crowdfunding on his BBC radio show? He has been saying, very often, that he's writing a book about live music, asking listeners to phone in with tales of live music in London over the years, possibly as free research. It will be very dodgy indeed if he mentions it any further in an attempt to lure listeners in the hope they contribute funds.

Jo good seems to get away with promoting her personal money-making ventures while on air on the BBC so Robert Elms might think it's worth a try. It is already quite incestuous, Jo Good plays QiGong lessons on her show.... these are done by Robert Elms' wife Christina... so Jo often mentions Christina's socials....where of course Christina mentions Bob's Insta....where he has a link to his crowdfunding.

ETA: Back to Robert Elms, I bought and read two of his books, I enjoyed them and also bought a few copies for gifts. I always liked him and his show for the mix of music and different topics but - due to hearing him daily when WFH started instead of odd days off - I started to notice his constant steath flexing and humble brags; he does not wear his knowledge or credentials lightly. I really don't know why he can't play it a bit cooler. Still, I do admit I'd listen if he was on every weekday.

As for this new crowdfunding publishing venture, if it reaches the (unspecified) funding target by the (unspecified) deadline and the book goes to print I might buy a copy but I certainly won't be paying for it ahead of time. I didn't like what I read about the difficulty obtaining a refund from Unbound in the event it doesn't go ahead, although I don't think that will be an issue for Bobby from the Barb, he has a lot of devoted geeky music fans, possibly with a bit of lazy pension cash.

I heard Snobby from the Barbican mention he was writing a book and his chat about live gigs but was very surprised to see his crowdfunding plea. By mentioning his insta on his shows he will definitely be promoting it.

Here is a review of the Unbound crowdfunding publishing platform Robert Elms is using, this reviewer is questioning its transparency...

I was just thinking that it would be easier to write down the shows/stars that Barry didn't write material for rather than the acts he did write for.
Truly the end of an era.
Yes he was such a prolific writer. I also like the fact that he continued to work and write with newer generations of writers and comedians as they came through, he didn’t just stick with people from back in the day. I think that way he remained current and reached new audiences. It probably helped him stay young, if that makes sense.

OMG, just now on BBC Radio London Vanessa Felz, handing over to Robert Elms for his 10am show asked him about his book, he actually had the nerve to namecheck the crowdfunding publisher, then did so again when Vanessa asked him to say how people could get involved, in other words how to send cash!

I can't see how this is anything other than advertising for his own personal commercial venture. If Robert Elms opened a bookshop would he be allowed to go on the BBC and say "Bob Elms' Books can be found at 24 High Street"? That would not be permitted, and I do not see why this, as an online version of selling, is any different.

The BBC has allowed Jo Good to spruik with impunity her YouTube channel that is full of covert ads, so I suppose the others think they might as well do the same.

ETA: These presenters are paid a wage/fee by the BBC to present each show - to inform, educate and entertain - their shows are not there as a stall from which they can sell their own wares.

Fascinating interview with Tareena Shakil on Woman's Hour just now. She joined Isis from England, then came back and was in prison.
The interviewer was Anita Rani and her icey dislike absolutely oozed through every question. AR said in one question that women like Tareena had made life even harder for muslim women in the UK, which I think explained her approach.
Will be on Sounds - worth a listen.

That should be reported. It must be a breach of BBC rules. I’m sure they were clamping down on this.
