Barbie movie

Watched it yesterday and was a bit disappointed. Storyline was very political and cliched. Some of the jokes fell flat. Got bored towards the end and found it dragged. As others have said, it’s definitely not for young kids, I don’t think they would get it. Ending was a bit weird.

On the plus side, Barbieland looked amazing and Margot is the perfect actress to play Barbie, she’s stunning. Ryan did a good job playing Ken and made me laugh a few times.

Wasn’t terrible, but I didn’t love it. I think it’s a film that will definitely divide opinion.

My 4 and 7 year old nieces love barbie would they honestly like this film? I want to take them but worry they won't enjoy it because its a 12.

Thanks for your reply. I knew it wasn't swearing or anything but if they aren't going to understand the concept or find it good then there's no point.

One thing I forgot to say - Ryan was the star of this movie in my eyes. I’m not a fan and probably never seen any of his movies before, but he was quite the character in the Barbie movie. His comical facial expressions and overall acting really enhanced the movie.

Simu Liu is a rising star and did a great job in my eyes.

To be fair they did say ‘the majority’ not all

Yeah, I got that. I’m just clarifying because I posted a similar post elsewhere and was accused of being a man in disguise lol.

Agree, Ken was the star of the movie

I've been reflecting back on the film.

From the trailer i thought it was going to be Barbie Doll living in the real world, but funny ha ha, cute comedy, tongue in cheek, with all the Barbie product placement that you'd recognise.

but it was Barbie going into the real world
and not liking the misogynistic world
and that was the unexpected plot that I loved (along with the homage to the dolls) and the narration.

The negatives are the film was chaotic, and featuring Will Ferrel - can't stand his "comedy" or his presence.

Loved the film! My boyfriend said it was “chaotic” afterwards but he’s since changed his mind (seen all the good press perhaps 👀). Something I liked was seeing all the British talent in it even though they didn’t have major speaking roles - Rob Brydon (apparently cameo because Margot loves Gavin and Stacey!), Connor Swindells, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou. It’s nice to see Brits in a big American blockbuster

I saw the movie out of curiosity and here are my thoughts:

1. It was a let down. It wasn’t funny at all and the few bits of ‘humor’ it has were dreadful.

2. The trailers on YouTube pretty much reveal the entire story.

3. The movie kept regurgitating ‘cliche’ feminist speech. The movie wasn’t ‘deep’ and you have to be rather simple minded to think this movie is ‘deep’ or profound (though the woman who was sitting next to me kept crying the whole time). I’m not criticising feminism at all, on the contrary, I’m just saying they could have made it a bit more intellectual and sophisticated than the cliche they kept serving.

4.The movie is definitely geared towards adults. None of this would make any sense to a young child.

The only positive point was getting to see the different types of Barbies that were created and discontinued and getting a glimpse into how Barbie came about.

In essence, if I had to pay to see it again, I wouldn’t!
If you paid me to see it again, I wouldn’t! It was dreadful! Should’ve just watched Oppenheimer which was amazing and then gone home 😂
