Australian Pop Culture and Influencer Podcasts #2

They’ve also either started the last few podcasts by saying they’re tired or all over the place, or ended by saying the episode wasn’t strong etc

This is their flagship show - they’re really taking their listeners for granted!
I hate towards the end of the year they always admit how over it they are and their opinions are always I don't care. I get end of the year is tough and busy but this is your job? To put out content and give your opinions on pop culture topics. If it's too difficult end the show early. It seems even though it's midway through the year they're at the same point.

I have friends with literal French children and I can assure you they are as ridiculous and demanding as Australian children. I will say - their mama wasn't allowing any screen time, but at a Christmas party we chucked on a movie for the all the kids. Which kids were absolutely mesmerised and couldn't tear their eyes away, and which ones got bored and went outside to play in the sprinkler?
I don’t necessarily agree with the stereotype, but French people are also notoriously rude and unpleasant?? Famously so and it’s originated from somewhere. Like, maybe the kids are well behaved, but what are they like as adults??

Children aren’t mini adults. They’re children.

(For the record, I have taken a baby to Paris and it was baby friendly and everyone was really lovely and accomodating, but I didn’t get any of the vibe that Vicky/the book is talking about)

I can’t even get through the episodes anymore which is sad. I genuinely think Michelle needs to take a break, she doesn’t say anything interesting. They should get a new co-host in and maybe Michelle can do a real housewives segment or something on the next mid podcast they bring out

They need to edit out all of the giggling and snorting too. Surely they realise that’s not interesting to listen to?

I’ve tried listening to Style-Ish and it so boring with no chemistry between the hosts. I don’t get the point of it.

I think the addition of Annabel to Shameless (why are they calling her belly?) is to keep the POC happy. People seem to really love her.
I personally think she adds nothing to the show and that her podcast (secret) is boring.
Oh I really like Annabel! I think she seems lovely, but I agree that they shouldn’t have the producer on mic on the show. It makes no sense.

When U used to listen (boycotted a while back now), Annabelle wouldn't add anything except more obnoxious giggling to the mix. Prob a diversity thing as suggested above (I believe she's of asian decent), but she adds no non-skinny-white-girl takes

I like her too but she never knows wtf they are talking about and for a producer of a pop culture podcast, she does not keep up with pop culture.

I remember the high low (which shameless fully ripped off) going the same way. They got bored with it and it showed. They became more and more reluctant to share opinions and at one point pandora commented that she’d been told off for colouring in during the record.

They should consider resting it for six months to a year and then have a full revamp. I’m sure people would jump back in.

I stopped listening to shameless a while ago, it’s just boring and stupid. Annoying girls who think they’re smarter than they are talking about rubbish.
The issue is I think they can’t walk away. They expanded their company pretty fast and have quite a lot of employees. They have the secret podcast and the fashion podcast (never listened to either they might be ok but unsure if they’ll remain popular) so their flagship show and their personalities are still the business.
Unsure if becoming a ‘media company’ so fast will pay off. Is it really a saleable prospect?

But they’re “smart people who love dumb stuff!” 🙄🙄
Honestly I had to give up listening to them BEFORE the pandemic! Because even back then I felt their takes were incredibly off and the gaps in their pop culture knowledge where glaringly huge!
Maybe it’s because I’m just that little bit older than them but I find the things they don’t know astounding!
I often wonder if I should give them another shot and dive back and listen, but you guys are making a very strong and compelling case for me do to do so lol and very justified in my decision! 😜

I still listen to Shameless, but sometimes I have no clue who they’re talking about. I assumed because I’m much older than their target demo. I have noticed they do not discuss Australian influencers/celebs often. I think they avoid Aussie influencers to not get anyone off side. I also noticed they play it safe with their opinions. If they aren’t doing this already for the main show, I think they should delegate to producers/researchers source the content (news stories) to allow the hosts to do the talking and run the business.

Same here. I too stopped listening around the pandemic time, but went back for some reason and listened for a while. It’s excruciating.
I used to think their takes were intelligent and I liked that they made a success of themselves after leaving Mamamia. Gosh how they’ve gone downhill. There’s limited effort and their ditzy, snorting, unaware of anything relevant episodes are just painful.

Big small talk is a great example of a pod that’s filling the gap Shameless have left wide open.

Agreed that Bigsmall talk pod is filling this ‘smart women who like dumb stuff’ gap really very well. Two smart, switched on women who listen to their audience and admit when they may have gotten things a bit wrong. I am generally mostly across what they talk about and appreciate their takes, particularly the pop culture as I’m older and it’s not what I’m talking about with my peers.
Shameless have become too ‘influencer’ to do this well. It’s lazy and sad now.

I LOVE Big Small Talk and I think I got into it from a recommendation here on Tattle!

In regards to all the shameless chit chat, very highly recommend big small talk for anyone looking for a more nuanced podcast that covers popular news items (e.g. politics) and still some pop culture
Absolutely LOVE Big Small Talk! To add another recommendation- Bang On is hosted by Zan Rowe and Myf Warhurst and also covers pop culture topics. It’s so well done, very funny but also really nuanced and both hosts are happy to give their full opinions about what they’re covering. Both incredibly intelligent women and fierce feminists AND there’s no snorting, or ridiculous put-on posh accents. Dare I say, it’s like Shameless for grown ups!

You had me at “no put-on posh accents”, consider me influenced. I honestly get influenced more on tattle than by any of these muppets paid to influence us.
