He was 17 when he auditioned and 18 when they filmed, not 19 and she was 42. One of the pictures on set speaks volumes and I can honestly say if it was the other way about and it was a man in his 40s, chasing an 18-year-old girl around instead of doing his job and constantly using the 'she is an old soul' BS, he would rightly be called out. There is a picture of them on set and he looks so young

He has just interviewed with Rolling Stone and it's talked about.

“What you gotta realize is that what most people were doing in their twenties, I was doing when I was 13,” as well as “You’re doing something too quickly for someone else? I don’t understand that. What speed are you supposed to enjoy life at? It’s bizarre to me.” when talking about how so many people side-eye it.

He's obviously going to have such a warped perspective about it. He was a troubled and lonely kid and she took advantage and has been whispering in his ear convincing him of her preferred narrative this entire time

Did anyone see the movie May December? That was based on teh true story of the woman who groomed the high school student and ended up marrying him and having his babies? I think it took that guy 20+ years to see the light and understand what had happened to him wasn't normal and he wasn't an "old soul" after all

It will happen...if it hasn't already. There have been a few stories over the years about him walking but she managed to persuade him to stay at the last minute. The rumours of him and other women also seemed to have gotten louder as well. It says a lot that people hoped the gossip about him and Joey King having a fling on the Bullet Train set was true so he could finally get away.
 
I know someone who had a relationship with a big age gap that started in their teens. All trundled along very happily until their kids reached the age they were when the relationship started and they realised how wrong it was, and how horrified they’d be if their child bought home someone 25+ years older, and so they split up. (obviously more reasons than that, but it was a big part of it)

I wonder if the same thing will happen here when his kids reach that age and he realises that no 42 year old should even think about 18 year olds that way.
 
You definitely see things differently when you get to the older person's age, and I think even more so when your kids get to the age you were.

I was in a relationship with someone 20 years older than me in my early 20s, nowhere near as bad as this situation of course but I was young for my age and quite vulnerable and he was in a position of authority so it was really inappropriate for a number of reasons.

Once I got to my early 40s the idea of being in a relationship with someone of 22/23 turned my stomach - and it was even worse when my kids got to that age. Looking at them and their friends, so young and full of life, and imagining any of them being with a 40 something... just no.
 
I agree a girl I went to school with in the late 90s ended up in a relationship with music band leader he was early 30s she was 16 turning 17 when they announced it - but think we could all guess it hadn’t suddenly happened overnight so. It’s have been going on a while. He would have known her from 14 onwards 😡

They were together years getting married when she was in her late 20’s had kids they broke up in last couple years those kids are in high school now and she’s with someone lovely but think it comes across she has lots of resentment to him and wouldn’t be surprised to her parents and family friends who didn’t seem to have an issue with him- absolute creep.

I remember when they were doing promo for that shite heap of a film they did a few years back...A Million things or something. Interviewers would always gush about how great of a couple they were because she got him to be naked in the film and dance around with his dick on full display. If it was the other way about and it was a male director filming his wife naked, I guarantee there would be no joking around about how lucky he is when being interviewed.
 
Omg I found a thread on this. This gives me major ick. I genuinely do not understand the attraction!? He was a vulnerable and lonely kids with seemingly a troubled life and not much of a support system. Sam's a talented older woman who is really successful in his dream career path. Who was an authority figure over him during their time filming and probably gave him some sort of stability in his life. She also probably made him feel extra special with her "he's an old soul" nonsense. It's not hard to see why he was initially dazzled by her irregardless of her looks.

Then she quickly got pregnant before he could ever notice something was wrong with the situation and the rest is history.

There were rumours on the IMDB boards at the time he had issues with his mum and it has been repeated since whenever the pair of them have been talked about. I have no idea if true and if it was, they seem to have resolved whatever it was but I could see her using it to get closer to him by giving him a shoulder. There were also stories just before she announced she was pregnant that he was starting to pull away as he was already being treated as a stepdad to her oldest two girls and he was aware it was a lot of responsibility especially as he was getting lots of acting offers. I'm not saying she did it deliberately because no one could know if she did or not unless she ever admitted it but it was perfect timing because it meant that was it and she had her hooks in either way.

Just the story he is in the running has had loads of stories about it in the last few months. Sam has also been asked about it during the media run for Back To Black more than once.

As for his career, he got rave reviews for Nowhere Boy and how the media and fans acted, the sky was the limit but he never seemed to take advantage of it. They have said in interviews that when one works, the other looks after the kids but if you look at what Sam has done since NB, it's not a lot so he had the chance and has shown he is willing to do bigger films like Avengers, Godzilla and Bond if he gets it. Maybe he is one of those genuinely telling the truth when he says he picks what he wants when he wants.
 
Also wondering why his big Marvel debut, Kraven the Hunter, seems to be stuck in post-production hell it was originally supposed to come out in January 2023 but now it's been delayed till December of this year. Marvel has been releasing stinker after stinker, why is this one getting held back?
 
My grandmother was 21 when she married my grandfather at 37.. He treated her like a queen and there was nine in the family… the marriage last 50 years.. So some gaps do work.. she is was very happy and not groomed….
