They were a kids paradise! Some of my memories:

The whole back wall was floor to ceiling of every bored game you could imagine! Then rows of toys, from Barbie's, Puppy in my pockets, Polly pockets, baby all gone dolls, sea monkeys - basically all the toys you saw advertised between citv!
Then there was the mysterious 99p aisle (a load of plastic tat) which you could get lucky with on occasion!
Lots of stationery, secret diaries, 'forever friends' themed pencil cases ect. You'd be able to pick up your first 'grown up' berol pen for school here, then a fountain pen and cartridges for when you got to secondary school!
Flicking through the posters that you had no intention of buying, but would choose your favourite (usually a dolphin or Winnie the pooh graphic!)
Later on they were the go-to place for Pokémon cards and ridiculously overpriced facias for your Nokia 3310!

Actually a lot of that was 90s nostalgia lol, but Woolworths will always have a special place in my heart!.🥰

I worked in Woolies in mid 00's, which tainted my happy childhood memories of shopping there  it was absolutely awful, freezing cold in winter, boiling hot in summer, my manager was horrible but fake nice like fat fighters Majorie from Little Britain. I have some fond memories of blasting out cd's during the evening shift when the shop was closed, we had the whole top 40 to choose from in the music section, used to play Lily Allen alright still album a lot in summer 2006, this compilation cd was a big favourite too -

Pasta King was a school dinner choice I think it got brought in as a healthly alternative to pizza and burgers.
There was always a rush to get one before they ran out even though it didn’t really taste of much.
I don't think we ever had them at school, although I have tried them. As others have said, a bit too watery for me.

I've never heard of Pasta King and now I feel like I need it in my life 😅
You could easily recreate it by filling a takeaway coffee cup or any other circular tub with watery pasta- it’s very important it’s watery to make it authentic and then add a thimble of sauce on top- if the sauce covers more than three bits of pasta you’ve added too much.

my school had pasta king but they would rarely have the sauce, the popular option was pasta with the baked beans and cheese that were there for the jacket potatoes
did anyone actually have good hot meal choices at their secondary school? my school finally improved its options but it was towards the end of year 11 for me so by then it was too late 😅
I always took packed lunches as the food looked awful, in 6th form college we had a salad bar which was okay but I remember mainly buying chips for 70p as most of us did (probably ly would coat anout£5now 🤣)

Chips were 30p when I started secondary school (1997). By the time I left (2004) they were £1.30

Strangely roast potatoes were still ~50p at that point. The cheapskate lunch was always a couple of fish fingers (15p each, I think) roast potatoes and beans (15p per portion, iirc)

All I remember was buying from the hot section was a bag of deep fried potato smilies or a sausage roll!

We had vending machines in my secondary school with cans of pop and juice etc , csnt remember if they had crisps and sweets/chocolate in too, I remember always getting the apple fruit shoot , totally forgot about that but this thread unlocked a memory

Eta I specifically mentioned the apple fruit shoot as I thought it was a discontinued 00s drink but googled it and you can still get them 😆
