UK spider season (no pictures)

We had new neighbours move in two doors away. Its one of those houses that's totally covered in ivy. Shortly after moving in I came home from work one day and all the ivy had disappeared. I thought it took the whole look off the house and that it looked better before however my husband said bumped into new neighbour and said they can't leave the windows open because it attracts lots of spiders.
One night when they went up to bed there was a spider the size of a hand on the bed 😫

It’s already began… ahhh! 3 massive house spiders in 4 days.. luckily my cat is chief spider catcher and has got all 3.. doesn’t eat them just plays and then kills them.. however did not enjoy standing on the one he got first in the dark, it was dead but massive.. ended up with spider goo all over the bottom of my foot 😫😫

The scariest thing is a spider moving! I have to leave the room as quickly as possible!
I think the scariest thing is a spider you can't see anymore... 😬

I love autumn but hate September spider season. I live in a mobile home which is made of wood, so we tend to cop them 😕. I'm crossing fingers it's a bad year for spiders (and so a good year for us), I remember a couple of years ago there were so many of them, I was constantly nervous. They're more likely to come out in the dark, so we leave our bathroom and kitchen light on at night, year round, which really helps.

I have, over time, built up the courage to catch them in a glass if there's noone else to do it. I hate it and it makes me sweat and shriek, but I'd rather that than it be lost somewhere in the house and me not be able to sleep 😑

I put off leaving my ex because I knew it would mean living on my own and having to deal with spiders. The first time one came in the house when I was on my own I had to call my friend who sent her husband round at 10pm and I realised I had a real problem! I now use insect spray to slow them down (doesn’t kill them) then I murder them with a mop then hoover or wipe up. I only do that with house spiders - the others I can now manage to remove with a long feather duster (the sort you can extend for ceilings). I hate killing them and feel awful but as others have said, it’s that or not sleeping. I then worry until November.

I moved into a new place a few months ago and it’s already full of spindly ones, which I can deal with, but I am worried sick there will be loads of massive ones from 1st September...

I absolutely love this. Litteraly staying with an ex so you have someone to kill spiders 😂 definitely something I would do. I have an elderly (but probably fitter than me in my 30s) neighbour who comes and gets them for me if my husbands at work. She’s the best 😂 my mum suggested doing one of those spider classes at zoos that are meant to help with phobias but I couldn’t bring myself to listen to them talking about them!
I heard the spindly ones keep the big ones away. I sadly don’t get any spindly ones in my house - I can deal with those kind!

Thank god it's not just me I hate them with a passion I'm already getting anxiety knowing they are getting ready to go on manoeuvres.
I cant get anywhere near them even to squash them if I see one I will go to a safe room until someone anyone will come get rid of it. I have waited all day before for my husband to get home not that hes much use he hates them too. I will pull the bed apart before I attempt to get it. Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl. This is the first season in our new home which is surrounded by woodland I'm not looking forward to it all.

I’m terrified of spiders, Ive never wanted to live on my own because I can’t get rid of them. All I can do is spray raid from a safe distance and hope they die. Very tiny money spiders I can just about deal with. Luckily we don’t live on the ground floor so we were ok last year, I think we only had a couple of medium ones and a few of those spindly ones. I remember growing up in our house which was an old property with loads of little gaps in the skirting boards and you’d just see this big brown blob shoot across the carpet out the corner of your eye  the worst was once when I was around 10 I was about to go to bed and there was a huge spider just chilling on my teddy’s head. It sounds comical now but oh my god I still think about what would have happened if I hadn’t noticed it. I definitely inherited the fear from my grandma, as neither my mum or dad are bothered by them. Luckily my boyfriend isn’t either - would be a deal breaker otherwise😂

I’m so glad you’ve made this thread! I’ve been looking for a support group of some sort for this 😂 I absolutely despise the awful things. They put the fear of god in me. I have conkers all around the house which seems to help. I recently tried the peppermint teabag trick but that did not work.

I live in the countryside in an old cottage so feel like this time of year I’m surrounded by bugs. I’ve got spider spray that says to spray around doors and windows but I don’t know if it works 👀 we’ll see, it’s normally between now and end of September they start making an appearance 😩

Thank god for the no photos on here too lol! I feel bad for hating them or killing them but I just can't stand them and I'm on edge any season that's not winter basically 😭
Luckily the boyf catches most of them but have had a few scary experiences having having to deal with them myself!

Really hoping we don't get as many after moving into a newer flat and being high up! Might need to get some of that peppermint oil just in case though

One memory from childhood that will always crack me up (traumatising at the time) was going into the bathroom and seeing a massive one so calling dad to get rid of it.

Only for him to bat at it with his hand (WHY DO MEN DO THIS IT DOES NOT WORK) only for the spider to inevitably go missing, resulting in me freaking out. Dad turns round looking for it and it is ON HIS BACK.

resulting in me screaming like a banshee and running out and my dad just spinning round looking for it completely clueless

But yes I love autumn but spiders are a solid no from me. Little demons need to be banished back to hell I don't care what people say about them serving a purpose and controlling fly populations etcetc

It has begun… one of my fb friends posted a picture last night of one in his bathroom and it was the first thing I saw this morning. He has now been hidden - I do not want to see that and it has freaked me right out. Why do people feel the need to post pictures? So many people treat this phobia as a joke.

Yeah I'd sooner have the flies indoors tbh 😬
