UK Literary Luvvies #3 Logistical reasons mean the only recommendations I have are Greek cleaning products

Did YouTube get the wrong picture 😂

Latest Sentimental Garbage: I've always been pretty ambivalent about Caroline O'Donaghue - I think she is extremely insightful and intelligent but there's something, I dunno, self-congratulatory or cool girl or mean girl or cliquey about her that has put me off. Well now she has slagged off Adam Buxton on the pod she is now my eternal enemy!

I agree and it's probably why I'm not sure about Caroline, because as I have stated on here before, I am a Dolly apologist (aDollygist?) and I want to be her friend! 😜
I wouldn’t bother she wouldn’t like you unless you can get her places or you’re ‘interesting’ like a zoo animal and she can put you in a story 😂

I’m joking, Dolly does seem really warm, but I don’t get the vibe she’s interested in ordinary people. I can’t see her putting any energy into befriending someone who wasn’t ‘special’ or could do nothing for her- she seems a bit of a posh snob

What did she say about Dr Buckles?!?! How dare!

What did she say about Dr Buckles?!?! How dare!

The SG ep was about Robbie Williams and they talked about the episode of Buckle's podcast from 2020 that featured Robbie Williams. Caroline seemed to think he had been really snide to Robbie and called him a 'nasty man'. I had listened to the ep at the time but listened to it again and its absolutely fine, really sweet actually. Imagine think Count Buckulese is a nasty man  I'd go to war for him!

How very dare she!
I do remember listening to that Adam Buxton episode and it was absolutely fine. He was pretty open about being ambivalent about interviewing him because he isn’t someone he’d usually talk to. It’s not his area of interest but RW was desperate to be on a ‘cool’ podcast.
Also, no offence Robbie fans but he does seem to be quite a wally.

On a different note, does anyone have a book rec podcast rec? I know this question comes up regularly and I also know there is a book thread on here but I want something the same vibe as high low - not too literary but not garbage. Use chat 10, looks 3 but they seemed to have stopped the regular podcast and it’s all live shows.

I’ve had a listen and it’s fairly evident that Dolly and Caroline are projecting their own try hard ‘desperate to be liked’ personalities onto the Buckles scenario. Adam is a fantastic journalist and has made a huge success of himself by being candid, transparent and well able to decipher the vibe of his guests… *clears throat* unlike some people 😅 Robbie on the other hand is as an narcissistic as any celeb comes (not to say I don’t like him) and just seems to thrive under any attention whatsoever !

I’ve only just started listening to the Literary Friction podcast but it seems they’ve just stopped recording forever! Anyone else listen to that? Theres a big archive of them though so quite looking forward to listening, what do we think of the hosts?
Ooh never heard of it. Will give it a try.

Books podcast rec:
The podcast Lit Up is hosted by an Aussie Londoner and ex-Cosmopolitan mag staffer. I initially found it because I'm a huge Emily Gould (ex-Gawker) fanperson and she was early cohost.
Lots of interesting author interviews, nice long episodes, and dare I say right up this thread's ideological alley aka the host isn't a smarmy gusher like Elizabeth D.

Hahaha ‘smarmy gusher’ is perfection.
