I'm curious for those saying no way would the airline let her fly in one seat and she'd have to have booked two- how on earth do they let people know if they need to book two seats? I've never seen it asked when booking what size you are, or any guidelines on where it might be a requirement?

I mean, I'm quite petite and not sure I'd want to be in economy for that trip! Anyone I know who can afford it has paid for business, with the rest just tolerating it. But none were that size. Even imagine the arm rests would be digging into you. Hopefully she splurged.

16 is normal! Doubt you'd need a seat belt extender either. People are talking about people big enough to spill into the seat next to them.

General rule seems to be if you can’t sit comfortably with both arm rests down then you have to buy a second seat… I’d say herself and whoever she’s travelling with have a row of three seats to themselves.
