I am GC and don’t believe that they should’ve been there on principle. However that aside, Laurel Hubbard was not fit to compete, they shouldn’t have been there at all. It wasn’t thrown, Hubbard is just too old and injured* to do it. Even if LH felt that they had a right to be there as a trans person, they went ahead knowing that they weren’t able to compete and therefore knowingly stole that place from a fit, healthy woman who had trained for years and doing their country out of a potential medal too. All to stroke an ego and make a point. That’s ugly if true. Plenty of women would have gone in their place and actually put the effort in to make the most of the opportunity. Why compete if you’re not going to try your best? That’s not really in the spirit imo.
What a joke I don’t buy it. They’re throwing it to prove some sort of sick point.
The whole situation stinks tbhI am GC and don’t believe that they should’ve been there on principle. However that aside, Laurel Hubbard was not fit to compete, they shouldn’t have been there at all. *LH broke their arm a few years ago (after qualifying) and was told that they wouldn’t get back to competition fitness but did not pull out of Tokyo

Gender CriticalWhat does GC mean? I’ve been racking my brain
Olympics doesn't allow athletes to make political or devising statements so I wonder how they feel about athletes such as Hubbard and the non-binary skateboarder doing just that seeminglyAll to stroke an ego and make a point.
The argument I’ve read is that they didn’t steal a place and they aren’t injured or too old because they got the best weight or time (not sure how you win at weightlifting) and their competition got lower so therefore Laurel should go to the Olympics.I am GC and don’t believe that they should’ve been there on principle. I am happy for Jade Carey but she literally doesn’t dance or do any decent choreography in her floor routine. Her tumbling is incredible, but compare her routine to the other girls and it really sticks out for me…
The higher score bit is true because they qualified pre injury. Post injury, LH is not fit. However, the *should go* depends on your feelings about the fairness of allowing a person who has accrued the physical advantages of male puberty and a male body for the first 34+ years of their life (height, muscle mass etc) to compete in qualifying for a place in women’s sport in the first place. The argument I’ve read is that they didn’t steal a place and they aren’t injured or too old because they got the best weight or time (not sure how you win at weightlifting) and their competition got lower so therefore Laurel should go to the Olympics.
The US commentators were praising Jade but did say the GB twins especially Jessica have great choreography and score highly. Hopefully when they are a little more experienced their tumbling scores can match that to win more medals!
I agree too, as I've always favoured the more balletic gymnasts than the tumbling powerhouses. Melnikova is definitely a future world champion. I really miss seeing the Romanian gymnasts at the top level though. Hopefully Iordache can put on a good show tomorrow.Ngl I feel like that about most of the US team. A lot of the moves they do just look disjointed
Russia is always a joy to watch on the other hand
Stressful… but maddie Hinch is a legendGosh penalties are always intense but well done to team GB women in the hockey.
I felt like that watching the women’s rugby sevens. Ruby Tui’s interview was so warm and supportive of the other competitors.I've always been a bit emotional when it comes to the Olympics but this years one just hits different. The athletes of all countries all seem to be a lot more supportive of each other. Seeing them cry and how much it all means to them makes me blub so hard.
I think Covid has made people appreciate each other more and it's made us as the audience realise how hard they all work.
And Simone is back on Beam, wow, it's going to be interesting!!
