The White Lotus

I really loved it. I loved the commentary on performative wokeness in particular. There were so many points made in this show and so many small details that I feel like I need to go back and watch it again. The ending is true to life, the rich elite swan off and continue living their lives despite being involved in quite traumatic situations, the service workers basically have their lives or their dreams shattered.

I think Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge could be big winners come awards season for this.

I've just finished watching this tonight! It is one of the weirder shows I've ever watched. I kept expecting something sinister and much darker to happen than what actually happened so feel it fell short a bit at the end.

I'll be honest after the misdirection in the first episode that makes you believe she died, I was sure Rachel (the newlywed woman) was slowly being poisoned because she kept looking like she was experiencing pain every time she was eating!!
My partner also thought the husband was going to accidentally stab her thinking she was an intruder after he moved the knife into the bedroom, so his guess was better than mine 🤣

Also I just want to give poor Belinda a hug. I really thought she was gonna tell that girl to shut up with her rich white girl problems 😂

Murray Bartlett is amazing and so compelling, very charismatic and steals every scene he’s in. A great ensemble cast. He must have researched the part by watching John Cleese as Basil Fawlty, I can see so much of Fawlty in Amand.

sheesh! What a ride! I’ve loved this series, I thought the rimming scene was shocking but the shitting in the suitcase completely trumped that! I wonder how much money Tania actually gave Belinda in the envelope. I know Belinda was very hurt as the rejection of the offer to fund the business, but I kind of feel the money in the envelope was more than just a large tip or guilt money, it may well have been $$$$$$$ so she would be able to open her own business, and own it as well? I’m sad Armand will probably not be in the next season, and I’m really pleased Quinn went back to the rowing team

In response to your spoiler:

I don't think it was just about the money. It was a decent amount and probably enough for Belinda to do something with, but she lost all the connections and knowledge that come with knowing someone like Tanya, a lot of business is about who you know. Tanya took up a lot of Belindas time during her stay, and this was never reciprocated, Belinda wanted the time investment as well as the monetary investment.

Yes you are completely right, I realised that Belinda felt let down with Tanya’s absolving her interest after being so previously passionate about them doing business together, however, empathetic people like Belinda would have been sucked dry by needy people like Tanya if they had maintained that relationship. I also think Belinda will realise in time that the healing she did on Tanya worked, and therefore set Tanya free.
I’m thinking way too deep about this! But this show has got under my skin in so many ways which is the hallmark of good writing and characterisation.

I'm not done with the series yet and I like it so far. The one minor thing I picked up on that confuses me is the fact that the show is trying to push the idea that Rachel is a hot trophy wife. While Alexandra Daddario is very pretty, the way her character is styled on the show doesn't really scream "bombshell" to me. Her hair and outfits are average and she seems to be awkward and unsure of herself. It's just a pet peeve of mine when a show is trying to spoonfeed us who the "babe" or "hunk" is on a show.

Season 2 trailer is out!

Also, I am not sure if you know this but Season 1 of White Lotus sweeped the Emmy Awards this year.

Season two starts streaming on Monday. Season one was phenomenally good - one of my favourite things I've ever watched. Murray Bartlett was excellent. Hoping the new series is as good - premise looks similar in the trailer.

I like this series better than the last one it's really gripping me. I think Cameron and Ethan are two who end up dead from fighting eachother drowning perhaps ? Their frenemy status is going to boil over.i definitely think one is going to be Cameron we already know Daphne is safe.

Well I wasn’t expecting that at the end of episode 5! 😳

I’m really enjoying this series!
SPOILER alert!

I think it seemed quite obvious to me! Essex guy with a load of posh men, including his “uncle” who is so well spoken. Pair that with just one young boy with a group of older men…
