The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez

I watched it during lockdown and it was indescribably heartbreaking! The fact that the authorities failed him so badly. I was heartbroken for the teacher as well who reported it so many times but couldn't do anymore than that. Was horrendous. Makes me sick that stuff like that happens in the world
I disagree, yes she reported it but she could have done so much more!!! All she had to do was drop him at the hospital. Yes there was a risk he would suffer more everytime 'that lady' got involved but my god, he was known to social services, that and with her support Gabriel could have told the doctors himself.

She reported it multiple times. The fault doesn't rest with her. She safeguarded in every way she could. She can't just take matters into her own hands and take him to hospital or social services herself. In an ideal world she could but there is a procedure to follow and ultimately she had passed it to the relevant authorities (more than once) who should have been acting. What if she'd have been struck off? She's now lost her job and Gabriel is still being hurt. She went to the principle to discuss it multiple times and was told not to get involved outside of her protocol. She did what she could within her job as a teacher. She is not a social worker.

For me she didn't do enough, box ticking and protocols resulted in a child being beaten to death.
I work with Vulnerable adults and I am well aware of the protocols and the procedures that must be followed in order to confirm abuse, (these very protocols can often stop people reporting for fear they are wrong, in Gabriels case there was no questions needed his abuse was obvious) however if I ever find my cries being ignored I wouldn't stop shouting until I am heard. Social services are renowned for their failings world over, some are fantastic but a lot aren't. Yes he was failed by many and mainly social services but my opinion will remain she didn't do enough.
