My chunky ginger boy is in for his teeth extraction on Tuesday. Has anyone's cat been in for that before and roughly how long did it take? He's in at 9:30am and I know I'm just going to be so worried about him all day!
Pic of the grumpy boy
Yes - my boy Freddy had 3 teeth removed back in April time. They had him in for most of the day at the vets due to him being sedated and then giving him chance to come around slowly after the op. From memory i think i dropped Freddy at the same time and i was allowed to collect him at 4.30pm.
It took him some time to get used to eating with 3 missing teeth but he has adapted pretty well.
Lots of get well wishes to your boy tomorrow x

Update on Freddy:-
Sooo as most of you know Freddy hasnt been well for sometime now - we thought things had improved back in July however after about 2 weeks he took another downturn.
I started logging his daily routine at the point when he started eating chicken again so as to build a picture as to what has been happening with him. This has turned out to be very useful as its helped us to track his symptoms ( and how often he is being sick/has the shits and or both). How he is when he is not feeling very well . Because i have tracked his behaviour as well this has helped to also identify some unusual behaviours ( sleeping spots, food , water intake etc). anyhow it has all come to a head again last week and i took him back to the vet last thursday.
The vet now suspects that he has a severe case of inflammatory bowel disease ( based off the symptom tracking) and it was apparent that he was in considerable pain. The vet gave us 3 options - (1) - try him on pain relief again ( we know this doesnt help and he is often sick whilst on pain meds), option (2) was to take bloods again, and do another ultrasound to see if anything has changed or (3) , try steroids. The vet initially warned me off the steroids because of Freddy's FIV ( cats with FIV do not tend to do well with steroids). At the time i decided i would choose option 2 (bloods, ultrasound ) but after i went home i reconsidered this ( i do not wish to put Freddy through the same trauma again) and called the vet about the option of PTS.
The vet agreed that my request was not unreasonable given Freddys symptoms and the length of time this has been going on ( we are now 6 months down the line). She then said if I was considering PTS then it would be worth trying the steroids to see if they helped. The idea is that Freddy will be on steroids for the short term and then we take him off them to see if the IBD has improved.
We are on day two of the steroids ( i picked them up Friday PM) and so far the only side affect is that he is ravenous so we will need to manage this as best we can. But he seems to be doing well . The fact he is interested in food is a plus because trying to get him to eat has been a challenge to say the least .
Should things change for the worse I will asking the vet to PTS. At this stage I think this is the kindest option for his sake . Even though it breaks my heart and I have a cry every time i think about losing him.
