The Nevermets (Channel 4)

I'm hoping with all my heart that Matt & Maria get married and have a happy life. Imo, they seem like one of the very few genuine couples on any of these types of programmes I've watched.

So what if Matt brings Maria to the UK and agrees to send money back to her family in the Philippines - some people in those countries are living in dire poverty. He may only have a minimum wage job, but if Maria worked too when she got here, and they could send a few £s a week, that few £s could mean a hell of a lot to someone living in terrible conditions. I know I'd be more than happy to do that for my partner's family if circumstances were similar.

At least they do both seem to be sincere re their affections, and they both seem lovely. No scamming on either end detected from my POV.

I'm certainly no Mother Teresa myself, but I've often thought, I'd love to find a family in one of these poorer countries to donate a few £s to regularly - the price we spend on a coffee per day/week would probably mean a fortune to some of them. The thing that puts me off is that money donated usually goes through charities, and I don't trust most charities. The world is surely ill-divided. And it's not fair. 😟

The show showed them getting married

What a waste of time that was, filming Leah and Chad! Also not having food in for them, having to get a bed. Grow the F up Leah!!!

I was shedding a few tears for Matt and Maria getting married. So happy for them

Agreed! The fact she seemed to just hoover her empty flat and thought that was all the preparation that was needed was so embarrassing. Wouldn’t you want him to feel super welcome, especially when he’s got his daughter in tow and it might be strange/awkward for her? Having somewhere to sleep comfortably and food in the fridge is like the bare minimum when you’re hosting 😂

I think the smirk constantly plastered on her face says it all. It’s just all a big experimental joke to her, which isn’t ok when he’s clearly very into her and has the additional complication of a teenage daughter to think about.

yep it was a long way to go for them then get treated like that. Leah is very immature

if I'd have walked in to that restaurant and seen Leah and Chad I'd have assumed she was an escort. The age gap, the dress, the awkwardness "mm bread" "yeah, bread" screams no connection. At least she got a free bed out of it I guess...

Matt is odd, no doubt, you shouldn't be 30 and living at hime still being babied like that but I do think he has a sweet connection with Maria and I think they'll go the distance, it could be the making of him having to grow up and support a wife and maybe a family. He even looked different at the end!

why not? It works for some people living at home still. I couldn’t do it! But many can’t afford their own place

Finally watched the last episode and was cringing so hard at poor chad having to buy a Tesco meal deal after a long flight! How pathetic and immature of Leah and such a lack of consideration. He was good to even continue to make things work with her. His daughter looked depressed AF at the food and sleeping situation, no wonder she suddenly disappeared.

That Leah is just weird, an empty house, sleeping on the floor, driving a Merc
Something not right there.
It was so so weird, she is way too immature, it really showed her up.
How can you invite your potential new man and his daughter all the way from America and you've got nowhere for them to sleep and no food in the house. Not even a TV for background entertainment!
So unwelcoming like she couldn't be arsed at all.
I was so embarrassed watching it.

Totally agree.
No excuse for not even having food in her home.
She took that guy and his daughter for a mugs.

Surely no one actually lives like Leah. I wonder if she thought C4 might think "Oh tit this looks bad we'd better get some furniture" so purposely made it grim.

Leah is an absolute embarrassment!! Imagine making a man fly 4000 miles to not even bother to buy food or drinks and to make him build flat pack 🤦🏻‍♀️ she was just stringing him along

Sarah and Jgoy was just unbearable to watch, all he wanted was a mummy figure and she was just so insecure and desperate for love, I felt so bad for her.

Jay and Veena were so wrong on so many levels, he needs to get as far from her as he can!

Matt and Maria and so lovely and his family seem so supportive of them 🥹 so glad it all worked out. I need more updates on them tho!! 🤣

sorry but matt gives me the creeps/ ick badly the way he walks/ his eyes barley open and his pigeon toed walk I cant

I just looked at their tiktok another user posted, some of it is so cringey but this is his first relationship in late 30s and he is definitely on the spectrum of some sort which is why he probably lived with parents and hasn't really been anywhere apart from his hometown or met anyone along the way.
For Maria, it may be a ticket to a better life or a chance of earning well to send back to her family. She worked as a domestic worker and her sister was also doing the same in the middle East, but it's long hours and poor pay. Plus there's an expectation in phillipines that you do what it takes to make a better life to send money back home.
