So, we are nearly a week in and no one seems to have been COPPAfied yet!
What do we all think? Is there a separate thread on COPPA given that it affects all channels or is it just getting discussed in relation to each channel ( I only really follow the Ingham threads).
Hoe do we think COPPA will start to affect channels at the coalface?
From what I have read, the $42000 figure that people are bandying about is for on line companies that flout FTC and COPPA. Any fines to You Tube channels will be much less than that. Even so, even if it is only a small amount, the Inghams have a massive back catalogue.
Could the whole COPPA thing have been a bit of a storm in a teacup? I hope not but I am beginning to think so. Most channels seem to be business as usual

I think given that it's only the 5th of January it's going to take a while to start seeing any changes. Especially if it's a case of the effects not being obvious until comments on videos start getting turned off, subs decreasing, views decreasing due to lack of notification Bells. It will take some time for their automated detection to pick up on everyone. YouTube is such a huge platform, I think give it some time and hopefully changes will start to flow in. Fingers crossed!

I know Coppa appears to be a bit of a damp squib at the moment, but I believe it could take at least a month, but possibly several more before we see the effects

YouTube are waiting for further clarification from the FTC regarding what ‘child directed’ means, but seeing as a Bratayleys vlog was specifically mentioned in the legal action taken against YouTube, and there are many many vlogs from the Inghams that are much more child directed than the specific vlog they mention, YouTube must take action

As DanTDM (huge YouTuber) stated after several meetings with YouTube and the FTC, this will effect virtually every content creator, as YouTube can no longer collect data on children, then market their site to the likes of Hasbro, Disney etc as the number one site for kids. Kids will therefore start to see generic rather than targeted ads that they will be much more likely to skip
