Reading The Mando's posts and Dustin's posts had me thinking of something from my own past.
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, while I was a young teenager, I was pen pals with someone at Disney who was kind of a public person but not what you would call "famous."
I lived in the South. One year, my dad had a business trip to California. We had plans to go to Anaheim and go to Disneyland. It was very exciting, so I told my Disney pen pal.
So, I had never actually met this person. But in a letter, he invited me to stay at his house in his guest bedroom.
I remember thinking, "Oh. That ain't happening." I had never actually met this person, but I had seen photos and seen them on TV. It may have been an innocent invitation, but I thought it was very odd. I was a naive kid, but I also wasn't stupid.
I politely declined, and said thanks for the offer, but I was staying at a hotel with my parents.
We did get to meet this person "in person" at a lunch---with my parents.
Nothing bad ever happened, and this person is dead now. But over the years, I have wondered what might have happened if I had accepted his offer.
