Sacking Raj after never losing a task and having the second-best win record ever, while keeping Phil after losing 9/9 tasks, makes a mockery of the whole show.
I don't care about this particular task, Phil should have gone and Raj been given another chance for that reason alone.
Flo was responsible for dropping the price unnecessarily even though Paul was already selling well, but Phil absolutely refused to say anything even though she repeatedly asked his opinion. It shows he is sly, and that he really didn't have a feel for how the viewer/customer would react. I noticed him shirking responsibility straight away.
It doesn't matter one jot that Maura and Raj were atrocious teleshopping presenters. It takes many more skills beyond selling, the vast majority of the population could not do live TV. Neither of them are hoping for a future in teleshopping so it's totally irrelevant. I don't care about Maura going because I find her to be silly, but Raj did not deserve it, it's her first major mistake and she deserved a chance.
This, in my opinion, is the major reason why the Apprentice has become
tit. You used to be able to analyse the teams' performances on the way through, see where they went wrong, be able to "play along at home" and think about what you would do in their situations, and most of all, it made sense why Lord Sugar sacked who he did, even if you disagreed. Previous performances were taken into account, so candidates could learn, grow, and improve upon bad performances.
Now the tasks are set up just to make the contestants look silly, and candidates just have to try to survive individual tasks because previous performance counts for little which it makes them sneaky, and less focused on the team winning. The editing is bad and you can't really judge how well teams are doing, because the producers just want everyone to look bad. There have been several occasions when what appeared to be the worst team won. It makes it hard to play along at home, or analyse.
I hate having 18 candidates as well, it means double firings are guaranteed, and you get less chance to get to know the candidates.
This series should have been a classic, there have been several iconic cringe moments, like Asif clapping in the boardroom prematurely, and the "adult fun" live TV exchange mentioned above. But it's not as funny any more because the entire show is designed to laugh at them so it's just not special.
This next episode seems to be another one designed to make everybody look bad (and laugh at vegans' expense). Cheap vegan cheeses are not nice, being made out of fat, salt, flavourings and binders. It is highly individual as to what brand a dairy-free person can tolerate, and many people just don't bother.
The nice vegan cheeses are made out of nuts that have been treated with salt and the same bacteria as cheese. They taste very nice, but usually don't melt. However, being genuinely cultured, they take weeks or months to make, so I'm guessing that whatever concoction they make next week will be of the quick and cheap cheese substitute variety.
The flavours have to be finely balanced to have any hope of slightly resembling cheese, and this is impossible to get right in one afternoon let alone from 7 wholly inexperienced non-vegans.
This bunch have already shown themselves struggling to calculate ingredients; to be incapable of timing, leaving food burnt or raw; to not know what shucking oysters means; to have mistaken a microwave for an oven; to have eaten pure truffle dust and been shocked that it was not chocolate; and to have put crumble on fishcakes.
Any food related task is going to be a disaster, let alone something as difficult as this. And I bet they all laugh and sneer at vegans at the end as if whatever shite they make is representative of us
