What’s garden leave? Never heard of it

It’s paid leave whilst they see through the notice period but they don’t actually work and not allowed to start a new job either. organisations will put you on ‘garden leave’ if you resign (or are given notice/sacked) if it’s better for the business.

In private sector this may be because they don’t want someone who is leaving the company continuing to work with clients (risk of poaching for example). But there are all sorts of reasons why garden leave may be appropriate.

i really don’t know how it works in the military/navy though.

It's when you hand your notice in and they let you leave straight away but think you still get paid. My friend worked with someone who got it because they were leaving for a rival business so the boss didn't want them staying any longer and taking ideas ( I think there was previous issues which made them think that)

that's just an example I've heard of not sure if people get garden leave for other reasons and can't see it happening in the forces

In the navy they’re given this type of leave to acclimatise back to civilian life, so you’re not just thrown back into the normal world. He’ll probably have a cushty role now he’s leaving too. You usually get a nice easy one as your last one!

Of Oliver was on any kind of leave or he's been signed off, surley he wouldn't be posting on social media etc just dossing about? He must have left or have been dismissed.
