Brett is an absolute swamp creature. The show portrayed him as some kind of devoted father who was being prevented from having a decent time relationship with his child by the big nasty emotionally abusive Charlie (who is by no means innocent, just pointing out how the show seemed to portray the situation). It also portrayed him as much less of a scrotey little roadman than he actually is.
