Layton is not a professional ballroom, latin, tango, paso dancer. He isn’t. He can dance and has dance experience. We seem to go over this time and time again. How many participants of Strictly over the years have dance experience?
A Strictly show full of Ann Widdecome’s, Les Dennis’s etc. would be absolute shiz. I’m surely not the only one who wants to be entertained.

While that's true, there hasn't been someone literally taken off the professional west end stage (who has danced and been choreographed considerably) and put in strictly. It's not training from years ago, it's not even pop style training. Musical theatre is about as close to Ballroom as you can get. Especially the Latin and more up tempo stuff.

If it doesn't bother you then cool, but dismissing his experience and comparing him to past contestants is just wrong. He is considerably more recently experienced than someone before.

Agreed. Every series has a couple of very good dancers, a couple of pretty awful dancers and the rest somewhere in between.

It has to be like that. It'd be boring if the skill level was roughly the same across all the contestants.

People tune in to be entertained, which includes awful dancers like Ann Widdecombe. People also like to see improvement and a 'journey' which sometimes the dancers who seem awful at the start can do.

Check out Carlos tearing up during JoJo's speech 🥰

And you can tell he isn't and has had to learn partnering skills and synchronicity from Nikita. It isn't like he has not had a ~dance journey~
