I haven't been following the tour to intensely, has there been any more news about Cameron yet.
I went to show in London last weekend and Karen mentioned that he was having ā€œtravel issuesā€ but was hoping to join them. Iā€™m wondering if heā€™s having visa issues like Johannes did only his arenā€™t being resolved quickly.

I think the travel issues thing is just a line at this point. I think itā€™s more likely something happened in his personal life he doesnā€™t wish to discuss so theyā€™re using visa issues as a believable reason for his absence. Thereā€™s been lots of reports online about delays at passport/visa offices so most people just nod their heads and accept that as the truth as it is a believable excuse. However Cameron just vanished off the face of the earth for months and thatā€™s why I think thereā€™s more to it. Weā€™ll never know what happened. Itā€™s crappy that the promoter never said anything but unfortunately they donā€™t have I donā€™t think. Im sure thereā€™s stuff in the small
print about that donā€™t guarantee the performance of individuals and cast is subject to change etc.
If Iā€™m being brutally honest I wouldnā€™t be shocked if he didnā€™t appear in August for rehearsals.
Nice kid but I donā€™t think he was really ready for strictly.

After reading one of the DS threads it makes me sad to see that there are possibly people who donā€™t know who Monkseal is or his humour.

I'm gutted he no longer writes his Strictly blog, but the archives are still there for when I need a laugh, especially his best of Brendan post šŸ˜†

Just caught the end of Morning Live and they said they were going to exclusively reveal the Strictly judges tomorrow....I mean, it's not exactly the world's biggest mystery is it

I love the Ariadne reviews, but a little piece of my heart will always belong to Monkseal.
his review of Lisa and Brendanā€™s showdance is always a go-to for a chuckle,

Agreed.

I don't believe there is issues with his visa when he was already in the UK for 6 months doing strictly then the tour.

I don't think in hindsight Cameron is the right signing; too young if you ask me.

I was genuinely interested to see him on the pro tour, mainly to see how he did with the rest of the pros on stage.

I feel a bit bad saying this because he is so young, but watching back some of his dances on the show, it's kinda obvious he's not up to the same standard as the others (which is completely understandable and not his fault, he just doesn't have the experience). There was one particular dance he did with Jowita that just doesn't look quite right and I think it's because he was dancing ahead of the beat for most of it (I'm saying this as someone who knows nothing about the technicalities of it all šŸ˜†)

I'm just finding it hard to imagine how he would do teaching and choreographing with a celeb. If he is back, I reckon they'll try him out with a Christmas partner first

I just don't understand why they weren't more open about it - obviously no need to explain why but they could have said something like "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Cameron won't be able to appear on the tour". Keeping up this facade makes it all look so dodgy.

Was Cameron a recommendation from Motsi, Oti or Johannes being South African??

I know recommendations can be welcomed but maybe TPTB need to look more at the experience and ability first?

I think possibly Cameron is good at the street stuff and we all know Strictly love a bit of cringeworthy "street". It would have looked slightly less awful for a young guy to be doing it than Neil looking like your geography teacher trying to be down with the kids at the school disco.

I think Emily Barker would be a great signing for strictly as a pro. She has plenty of experience with DTWSIRL. Her celebs have all been different ages and abilities and they all speak well of her.
I loved her Charleston dance with Jordan this year ā€˜ walk like an Egyptianā€™
(I also met someone involved with DTWSIRL recently who told me how lovely herself and Pasquale which was no surprise really )
End of rave post!!

On paper, I think they thought Cameron would be a good signing for them - young, dynamic, can do the street type styles and also brings some more diversity to the lineup (particularly with Oti being on her way out, and remember that options for African pros are probably quite limited).

However, I just don't think he was ready for it. Some early 20 somethings can handle it, just need to look at the many successful younger pros DWTS has had. His dancing is just way too messy and frantic, he & Jowita were never in sync. Could he handle a celeb? Plus, being 21 and really short, they would have had a harder time finding partners for him. If there was a Claudia, Dani, Georgia, Chelsee equivalent in 2022, then he'd be fine but there's not a short younger woman in the lineup every year.

I do sympathise though. It must be difficult working abroad at 21, thousands of miles away from family and maybe finding the job quite difficult.

Isn't 6 months exactly the time when the visa renewal problems come up? I've heard stories of S African visitors having particular problems with the HO this year. Our lovely 'hostile environment'! That said, I did feel he didn't fit well with the cast dancing on tour and he is very young and visibly inexperienced.

I don't see strictly getting an ex DOI-pro; one of the reasons that DOI are a laughing stock is because they struggle to get regular celebs and have to resort to getting ex-strictly pro's to be on the show as contestants and as a judge

I doubt strictly would want to go down that route themselves.
I remember years ago Jane and Chris did a Strictly Children in Need Special (Jane with Shimmy Jimmy Jordon and Chris with Aliona) and the most they could rustle up was that training for dancing is done in a warm room and the shoes hurt because they arenā€™t skates. They were as good as you would expect people who actually had ballroom dancing lessons (in a warm room, not in skates) for their day job to be.
At least for dancers going on DoI as contes there is the ā€˜but ice Is very slipperyā€™ get out clause.
