You can always tell when a couple is clutching at straws, they pull out a sob story.
I thought by asking the couples to pick a pertinent song to them for couples choice was a green light to get out there anything that might be deemed a sob story. I’m sorry for whatever hardships anyone has been through but Judi and Graz doing that was blatant to me and I think if Greg had spoken about his sister in any other week he would have been slated!

Yes, I have enjoyed Judi & Graziano so far, but last night left a bit of a bad taste. It felt like emotional blackmail. I hate how CC has morphed into a licence to witter about all the tit things that have happened to you and how you’re paying tribute to them through had power of dance, but I could tolerate it when it was confined to the CC only. If it’s going to start leaking into the other dances too I’ll be switching off.

What. The. Actual. Sara is 7 months older than me 😮

the fuzzy duck in Norton is where they’ve been hanging out during the week apparently…

Was laughing with husband last night that Sara & Aljaz appeared to be rehearsing in the Shotton Colliery Comrades Club, with the addition of some wheely mirrors 🤣

Funny! I remember years and years and years ago Brendan Cole was dancing with some blonde woman, can't remember her name think she was off casualty, anyway they didn't get on at all, mostly because she couldn't dance and she literally couldn't even walk in heels but he forced her to wear them and he ended up dragging her round the dance floor. They didn't last long 😂

It was Sarah manners from casualty I remember he made he

It's her head, it's huge! I've mentioned it before. She's got the longest face, it doesn't match her body. I find it really distracting.
It was Sarah manners from casualty he made her cry kept taking chocolate bars off her and basically called for fat

It was Sarah Manners that a Brendan danced with (and didn’t get on with - shocker!), but I think the chocolate thing was James Jordan & Georgina Bouzova: she turned up with a hangover & was eating Maltesers, and a ‘disagreement’ ensued, which may or may not have resulted in the Maltesers being thrown across the training room. It was JJ’s first series, and it coloured the public view of him for a long time after that.

Brendan & Sarah’s big row was because she was filming Casualty & he had to go to the set to rehearse. He complained about it, and she said that it was ‘his job’ to follow her around because she was ‘the celebrity’, and his ego exploded. 🤣

That said, their Evanescence paso was one of the best-worst things I’ve ever seen on Strictly. 😂

(It’s useful that I can’t remember what happened yesterday, but I can remember random VTs from 15 years ago on Strictly 🙄)

Strictly used to be much more ‘real’ back in the day. We saw everything from the training room and it was always obvious when a couple didn’t get on, they didn’t try and hide it at all. Now we’re told they are all ‘friends for life’ and that nonsense. I don’t believe it most of the time, it was fairly obvious Amy and Danny John-Jules didn’t really get on for example.

It really was and I miss It! I liked seeing when they argued or struggled with training as well as when they were having a good time. Now it feels sanitised and almost overproduced!

Yeah, I hate the fun cheesy VTs. Far better to see how the weeks training went but since It Takes Two started covering that I think they moved away from that. I have noticed the past season or two they've stopped the acted VTs which most people hated. They mostly only roll out for the next week's preview or on the specials weeks.

It is a lot more contrived nowadays. Look at Rose and Gio being told to do more social media content - I know that wouldn’t take long out their day but if you throw in things like the Macarena video - probs also wasn’t long but they were wearing different costumes so it wasn’t a quick “one and done” (@kachoochoo) - it’s all very “look at us having all the fun!” And the reality probably is all the Pros are competitive and most of the contestants are too and they all want to win and to do that, you need to put in all the hours you can.

It must be awful to not get on with your partner. Imagine it’s your ultimate dream - you’re relatively famous but have time to do it, you’re picturing yourself gliding round the floor in a beautiful dress with Pasha (other gorgeous dancers are available)…and you get lumbered with Neil

I agree. I think it’s since the rise of ‘fake reality’ shows like TOWIE and all that tit: everything is more controlled and ‘shaped’ to push a certain narrative.

The ‘friends for life’ thing really grates on me. I’m sure a few of them do remain very close, and some will remain casual friends, but plenty will just move on to their next job and never look back.

That said, Aliona’s golfing friendship with Tony Jacklin really tickled me 😊

I dislike the 'let's go for a random walk that looks like a catalogue shoot and discuss last week and find our what we are doing this week' VTs

Or you get who you want and discover their true nature

Of course there are some that remain good friends, Susan Calman and Kevin being the obvious one. Gemma Atkinson and Alijaz are another, but for most of them its just a professional arrangement that concludes when the series and tour ends.

Remember Steve Backshall making a formal complain about Ola? Though, given how all of her other celeb partners came out in vocal support for her I’d say the problem was probably his and not hers and he just didn’t like being told what to do by a woman.

I enjoyed it when it was more unvarnished 😁

And while I get why they do it this way now, my one ask is that they don’t ever go what we might call ‘full X-factor’ with the contrived emotional manipulation. (I enjoyed X Factor for what it was, but I don’t need Strictly to be a carbon copy in tone and presentation)

We’re looking at you John and Johannes 😂

I’m sure they couples think it’s a complete waste of time too. And the faux shock when being told they’re doing - I’m sure they know before that
At least the mystery of why Katya was posting insta stories from a random empty swimming pool through the week was solved.

Themes and gimmicks work best when they are incorporated into the dance and the music. Musicals week and movie week are less irritating/can produce quite good moments because at least the props and theming are coherent

I didn't know that about Steve.
