How did Ann Widdicombe pass then?
I tried to see if I could find an article that mentioned if this was a recently new stipulation - couldn’t find anything but it was 2 years ago Kammy was due to be on but couldn’t, and interestingly he said that he’d been told who he’d be dancing with as they had to train with them for 6 weeks before the show started 🤔

Medicals will be for insurance purposes and are more common in tv/film than you probably realise.
I would assume that unless you’re basically at deaths door or at serious risk of health complications than you pass. But there’s also some personal responsibility as well which is why Robert went to see his cardiologist when he was approached about the show.

I wonder if these fitness tests are more recent. Would explain how we've ended up with younger leaning casts as of recent years (not a single over 65 since Lesley Joseph who was probably an exception to the rule regarding fitness level for her age) and would also explain how we still got people like Jimmy Tarbuck, Ann Widdecombe and Tony Jacklin on the show - no way in hell that Jacklin or Tarbuck could have passed the test and I'd be dubious over Widdecombe and a few others over the years as well.

I understand the caution, it would be terrible publicity for the BBC if another Tarbuck situation happened now. DWTS don't appear to do the same, they cast 75 year old Karate Kid actor Martin Kove in the current series who was 20+ years older than every other cast member and he didn't have it in him at all, he couldn't move well at all and really stood out in a negative way.

Kelvin Fletcher wasn't!!

Nor Danny Mac!

How did Ann Widdicombe pass then?

It must be a new-ish thing, as there’s never been a hint of it before. And Jimmy Tarbuck clearly would never have passed it! Also, Mark Benton really struggled with a knee problem, so I’d guess he didn’t have a vigorous physical appraisal beforehand.

That is interesting. I knew they had ‘auditions’ to test out pro/celeb chemistry beforehand, but didn’t know about the pre-training.

Didn't Antony Ogogo take part with a fractured arm or shoulder? I remember he couldn't move it in their Paso

Yes, it was Oti’s first year and we didn’t get to see much of what she was capable of.

That doesn't make sense why you wonder that when they have Rose who is deaf and they've had disabled people?

I think I get what the previous poster meant: the side effects of his brain injury include a short temper/personality changes, epilepsy, and memory loss.

So being in a high-pressure environment, with choreo to remember and perform in the glare of a very public spotlight, doesn’t immediately appear to be an ideal undertaking, and presents a very different set of challenges to navigate as compared to Jonnie Peacock, Will Bayley, or Rose. Cerebral processing issues are extremely complex, and sadly he never seemed like he was very comfortable being on the show. I hope he didn’t feel that he had to take the job for purely financial reasons.

Speaking of both disabled contestants and Gorka, it wouldn't surprise me if he got the Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds next year. She just retired after Tokyo and I know that the show likes having a disabled contestant each year and usually someone with a different disability. Height and choreo wise, Gorka would be the obvious pick for her.

She would be fantastic, I’ve seen her on a couple of programmes and she’s got an infectious personality

Fractured arm, split trousers 😳

Is janette annoying anyone else on ITT?

I've said before I found her unbearable on the main show but actually quite like her on ITT. I was dreading it as I didn't like Zoe either.

I know she can be a bit self-confident but weirdly it doesn't bother me on ITT, I quite like her interviewing style. She is a bit OTT confident but I like her rapport with the pro dancers and celebs so I can forgive it 😂
