In fairness to her barristers are subject to the cab rank rule which means they can’t turn down work which falls within their specialism. She won’t have been able to say no just because of what he’s done. Everyone is entitled to fair representation no matter what the crime

I used to work in Proceeds of Crime. A confiscation order will have a value that represents the monetary gain they (prosecution so CPS/police) believe he's had from the crime and a figure representing what asset value they believe he has that can pay towards the former. It will increase interest if he doesn't pay. He can serve time if he doesn't pay - which doesn't wipe the debt in any way. If there is a discovery made after the judge agrees the order, that he has more money hidden, he wins money etc, then an Uplift could be made where that second asset figure is increased.

Compensation orders are totally separate and I'm not too good on those, sorry!
