“leaders in the black community” lmao she really has no clue and should have just kept her mouth shut. proof she isn’t bothering to read or watch anything she is recommending (all to save face). 13th goes into detail about the persecution/attempts to persecute leaders such as fred hampton and angela davis and how that stunted the movement in the past and highlights that a core element of BLM is that there are no identifiable leaders that can be traced and removed. highly recommend anyone to watch 13th if they haven’t already. it’s on netflix so very accessible. no excuses for ignorance these days really

I don’t get it. Posting a black square doesn’t make you care about a movement. Educating yourself and encouraging others to do the same is far more important- the girls have done that. This is the issue with social media- it’s so phoney. I haven’t posted a black square and I refuse to believe that it’s a marker for how much you care about equality. How ridiculous

“The leaders” of the black community, As a Woc I’d LOVE to know who my “leader”was. The issue people have with the squares is people pointlessly posting a black square with NO info when the have never spoke a word on blm. She could of posted with a caption of the all info, petitions, books and stuff that she posted on her story, but just proves she’s not a true ally, so I’m glad she didn’t because it wouldn’t of been authentic.
On another note did anyone see all the stuff about cultural appropriation and Justin timber lake calling sza “sis”. I find both of them very performative, I can tell that their support isn’t genuine as they seem more focused on how it reflects on them rather than how it will benefit the black community. And saying black leaders? Do better. They clearly haven’t educated themselves if they can’t even name a black leader they’re referring to. Their protesting is trying to be ‘pretty’ rather than genuinely educating people and themselves.

Ngl Sophia is correct in this situation, fair enough if you wanna post your black square with #blackouttuesday but lots of people are not for v valid reasons, and if they did post it everyone on this thread would drag them for just copying others and not doing something more meaningful. (Don’t get me wrong there’s things i don’t like about s&c but regarding #blackouttuesday, they aren’t wrong)

Let’s be honest; at the end of the day they’re doing it because they don’t want to ruin their “perfect feed”. It’s obvious. Anything else they try to justify is just a poor excuse. God bless these girls, I hope they learn there is so much more to life than how your Instagram feed looks.

It’s not about being right or wrong, a lot of people have different opinion on it, and that’s ok when you’re all working towards the same end goal. I think the issue is It looks like she doesn’t want to ruin her “pretty” feed with any info and she’s hiding behind the “black leaders” thing as an excuse. Because the issues with the black squares being pointless only came about after everyone started posting, and lots of people cane out and told their issues with it and some deleted and some kept it- so if that was the case they would of posted this mornings and deleted it and explained why. Sorry if that sounds rude, ❤ Really don’t wanna come across horrible, just a touchy subject My family has been through it x
