She's going to run off to Portugal or Mexico again post-Christmas...when she starts going on about her weight, she doesn't want to be around people and flies off somewhere to stay away until she feels like she's undone the christmas "damage". I'll never forget the measuring her neck, and mental breakdown that ensued.

What I can't understand is, even if she doesn't have control with food and drink, she's going to the gym constantly - surely she should be burning off whatever damage she perceives she's doing? She mustn't be "gyming" it intensely enough to keep up with her calorie load, which is mindboggling considering how often she goes to the gym.

Hope that isn't a trigger to anyone; enjoying christmas, and getting out for walks etc does the job over Christmas - this one has to do everything to extremes.

It's a horrible life. To feel obliged to get up and go out in the pissing rain to the gym to undo a night on the tear and eating so she can maintain the pretence of "enjoying herself". Truly horrible existence.

Most normal people will enjoy themselves and take the week off the gym.

Food and comfort eating might indeed be the love of her life as she runs away from whatever it is she is hiding.

Exercise is kind of crap for weight loss after the initial newbie stage. Your body adapts and it only really works if you keep upping duration and intensity then. Not efficient at all, compared to eating fewer takeaways. Better viewed as something you do to feel good and be healthy, not punishment or burning off food.

I will probably do walks and walk-jogs over Christmas, but because I feel like it clears my head and sets me up for the day/blows off cobwebs. Horrible to feel like you can't miss a day of "training".

Even in my 30s I'd grown out of that kind of drinking. Like, why every single day? Isn't there anything else to do? So boring.

Lots to do around Dublin or within a few hours reach that she could showcase to her platform. A couple of things come to mind, some hiking in beautiful Wicklow, a coastal walk, Kilmainham Gail or some other history tour. Even a visit to a spa resort.

But no it's drink drink drink drink. A total embarressment.

I am convinced she is the love child of Fr Jack and Alan Partridge.

I'm the same age as her, there are so many valid reasons why i think the pubs should have been left open, later, if not as normal. Her narrative weakens the case for this.

I can think of 100 reasons why the pubs should of been kept open.

But I agree with you, the way she has behaved the past week, socialising with every Tom Dick and Harry swinging out of them, she is not the person to vouch for pubs !

Brilliant post. When I think of my too brief stint in Dublin my happy memories are stuff like Howth/Clontarf/Dun Laoghaire, all the things to see and do in the city centre, little cafes etc. And I obviously missed loads of things!

It’s the same anywhere she goes. She showcases none of it but shit food and constant alcohol. She would never encourage me to visit any of those places.

Myself and 4 of my friends all turned 30 within a few months of each other and took a 10 day holiday to celebrate (Amsterdam, Brussels, Munich). By day 3 we couldn’t cope with the hangovers and were starting to need a drink at lunch to do any sort of activities we had planned. And I mean we were highly functioning, cycling and touring all day but obviously hitting the night scene every night. We literally drank lunch sometimes breakfast and dinner the whole time straight otherwise we’d be miserable. And not binge drinking either just normal pace. When we got home I had night sweats, horrible dreams, anxiety, all of the withdrawal symptoms of an alcoholic. 2 of the girls were nurses and made out a small taper schedule but swear I was horrified and not right for weeks. This looks exactly like that, except it will go on for a month. Hope she doesn’t go on like that to her expat friends, another Irish glamorizing alcohol and making us out to be fools.

That is so scary and such a good example of how easy it is to slip into unhealthy behaviours! Surprising amount of people with cirrhosis describe what just sounds like social drinking.

And HATE that kind of Irish drinker stereotype. Remember living elsewhere and their expectation was "oh you're Irish, you'll be mad for drink and out all the time". We bring it on ourselves really. Glad I used to get the most ferocious hangovers - they turned me into a very careful and very occasional drinker. Yes, you can go out and have one. Or none!
