Share your empties!

Any empties or just things sold in boots? And is it points when you purchase, points when you recycle or both? Sorry if this is a daft question, I'm totally out the loop with loyalty schemes.

It's for mostly hard to recycle items, things like toothpaste tubes, baby formula scoops and lids but not the tins. You log the items for approval through the app. Once approved you go to store, drop them off, scan the QR code, spend a tenner and receive a fiver in points. Also, if your local store is one of the few that accepts them, you can also drop in medication empties. Things like the poppy packaging that paracetamol comes in, stuff like that.

I think John Lewis has a similar scheme.

The Body Shop used to have recycling bins in store for difficult to recycle make up and personal care products but seemed to have stopped doing this unfortunately since going into administration.

I've finished the Inkey list Polyglutanic SPF and really liked this and would use again.

I've nearly finished the Lacura Pro Night Advanced Serum (Estee Lauder dupe) I thought this was okay after my skin got used to it but I think it might have broken me out at first.

Just one empty (I’m so tit at using stuff up) but it is something I’d definitely repurchase

matrix miracle creator multi tasking spray for your hair

This was a sample bottle I got free and wow it’s amazing! So lightweight (I have fine hair albeit a lot of it, but it weighs down and goes greasy easily) but this just makes it feel so healthy, fresh, conditioned, smooth and silky.

Love it! Well worth it

The last quarter of 2024 is (almost) upon us and I will do my yearly ritual now of aiming to use up several products:

  • Maria Nila Structure Repair Hair Mask (great but needs to be used up, has been open for ages)
  • Missha BB Cream Bright Beige (similar, I think I've had this since 2019 :censored:)
  • Maybelline Fit Me Powder in 115
  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 03
  • Inkey List glycolic acid toner
  • Inkey List polyglutamic acid serum
  • Jean & Len Leave In Spray

Emptied the Maria Nila Structure Repair hair mask today, and about time. Won't repurchase, it's too expensive. Also, it needs to be mixed with a conditioner to work for my hair and while my hair does look and feel nice after, I've a nasty suspicion that that hair mask is partially responsible for clogging our shower drain. Really not worth the trouble and price point.

Skyn Iceland Rubberizing Mask - received this in a beauty box or GWP.
Such a strange product. It comes in a container and you mix pouch 1 with pouch 2 and use the supplied spatula to apply the product. That was fun! It was dripping down my face and it looked like my face was melting! It sort of set so I could peel some off after 30 mins but it just made a lot of mess. It made no difference to my skin.
This would be great to apply at Halloween to scare the local children!
In case you didn’t guess, I would not repurchase.

And another one gone from the list, the Maybelline Fit Me powder in 115. It's not a bad powder, in fact, I have already repurchased a replacement in a slightly darker tone. It was a pain to use up though, it's a square pan and of course the last bits are in the little edges where you can't really get into with a brush. but it comes with a little mirror in the package, which is nice.
I've a love/hate relationship with pressed powders anyway 😂 don't like the mess of loose powders, but nothing comes close to their finishes so I'm never sure whether I like pressed powders.

2 more finished.

REN Evercalm Cleansing Milk - received this in my subscription box. I used to use this years ago and I had forgetten how much it suited my skin. It’s unscented and just leaves my face feeling clean without feeling tight. I much prefer a cream cleanser to a gel for my morning cleanse and second cleanse. Once I work through my stash, I think I will repurchase either this or Alpha H Balancing Cleanser - whichever is the cheapest as they are very similar.

Kate Somerville Peptide K8 Power Cream - another beauty box buy. I love this. I love how it feels on my skin. I love the fragrance. I love the push down tub dispenser. However, at approximately £130 a tub 😮 I would never repurchase it. As much as I love it, imho NO skincare is worth that much.

Garnier Whole Blends Camellia and Argan Oil Conditioner

This was my third bottle from this line, I've had this one and the oat conditioner before already. The conditioner, especially the camellia one, is so good but the bottles are so crap, I don't think I will repurchase this again.

Maria Nila colour hair mask in Sand. Will not repurchase, it's too expensive for too little result and I find these colour hair masks such a faff. In theory it sounds good, but then you need to wash, get out, apply it,beauty around while freezing and then continue th shower ... Fir no result way too many steps.

Just finishing the cerave toner. I liked it and is a good price, lasted me ages. I think I like the ren glow toner better but the Cerave one is good for it's price point and made my skin feel hydrated.

Can't believe how much this thread has shifted my attitude. Usually at this time of year I'm looking into the advent calendars and gift sets, now I have a streamlined hg routine with products I am loyal to because they work. Only buying to replace helps too.

2 empties and 3 discards…

YSL make up setting spray - just a small travel size that I got free. I don’t really use setting sprays so I wouldn’t repurchase.

Dr Pawpaw 4 in 1 face serum - travel size received in my subscription box. It was okay, I didn’t think it really did much so wouldn’t purchase the full size.

Kate Somerville Daily Deflector mineral sunscreen SPF 30 - received this in either a beauty kit or my subscription box. This goes on so thickly and leaves a terrible white caste. I’m pale so this is a definite no-no for anyone who is darker than the shade Caspar the friendly ghost! It’s expired now so thrown away. I also usually use SPF50 so I wouldn’t repurchase.

Murad City Skin Age Defense SPF 50 - this wasn’t bad for a face sunscreen. Not too greasy. Tbh I hate the feel of sunscreen on my skin so I’ve yet to find my Holy Grail. It’s expired so had to throw away.

EOS lip balm - it was one of those balms that comes in the ball shaped container. It did what it was meant to do but tbh the dome shape is a bit of a gimmick and when I went to use it last week, I discovered the dome had broken off and is now lodged in the cap rendering it useless. I would not repurchase because I’ve had to throw out 3/4 of the product.

I got gifted a bottle of the Kerastase Chroma gloss and it was lovely, but it's like £45 a pop  So it's a no from me!

I tried the L'oreal Wonder water instead (same type of product, lamellar water) and it is surprisingly really good. Can't go wrong for a fiver on offer in Boots. A noticeable difference when I use this, finished the bottle and going to repurchase.

I've been using this for a couple of years, and love it! I get it on Amazon subscribe and save as it's always around £5 or less, then get a 15% s&s discount. I think the usual £10 is too expensive in Superdrug/Boots etc and hate having to wait around for an offer!

Another month's worth of empty products!

ELF Lash and Roll Mascara - The second tube of this I've finished. I really like this mascara but I've got a couple of different ones to try because I felt like a change.

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Katie - I've put together a capsule makeup bag with the idea that I can rotate through my blush and eyeshadows, weeding out the stuff I don't like and using up the rest. I'd put this blush in my capsule to try it out. It had cracked previously and it ended up crumbling away to nothing. Shame really.

Farm Stay Real Avocado Essence Mask - A GWP from a Stylevana order. Nice and juicy sheet mask, managed to keep it on whilst checking on the baby and scare the tit out of my OH. Win in my book!

Patchology Flashpatch Hydrating Lip Gel - I bought a lip kit ages ago and this was part of it. Never used a lip gel before and probably won't again. This felt like the jelly part of a Jaffa Cake only slimy and cols. Did absolutely nothing for my lips.

Axis-Y Artichoke Intensive Skin Barrier Ampoule - Absolutely loved this and will repurchase once I've worked through my stash of serums and ampoules. It really helped reduce my redness and take some of the heat out.

Axis-Y Panthenol 10 Skin Smoothing Shield Cream - This is how I wanted Cicaplast to be. Lightweight yet deeply Hydrating, it worked wonders on my skin when my barrier was absolutely fubar after just one application. Would repurchase.

YSL touche eclat le teint foundation-Lovely foundation but too glowy for me so I might try the all hours one next.
Nars creamy concealer-I always buy this but I'm not repurchasing it as I want to try the new MAC concealer.
