I think its why I can't stand reality TV nowadays - I don't think younger people realise that "back in the day" people just wanted to be on BB, and didn't expect to be famous; and with the false sob stories now it's just boring.

Yes, the early series of all/most reality TV shows, not just BB, were so much more ‘innocent’ as the participants didn’t set out with an agenda to become ‘famous’ and the producers weren’t as heavy-handed in trying to contrive a certain narrative.

It’s ironic that ‘reality tv’ is not remotely ‘real’ nowadays 😐

Yeh hate this whole get on reality tv to be famous stuff now.

i loved the first series of married at first sight and then it became too muvh about the staged drama and fame hungry wannabes.

It all feels very forced now. Early BB was interesting as a social experiment, and then I enjoyed the next few series’ when the contestants made their own entertainment. The box episode was amazing, but (I think) the nasty Nick drama was entirely organic and not engineered by producers, and that’s what’s most remembered.

Now it’s all wannabe influencers and contrived drama for the sake of it, and thats not good tv.

I was pleasantly surprised by ITV’s reboot. They were mostly normal people with no prior TV experience. The house looked amazing as well, but it was very sanitised and safe with very little live feed and its since transpired that there was a lot of stuff we didn’t see. Also on reflection I realise there was only one major storyline that carried through the whole series.

Wasn’t Elizabeth the one where in her audition tape (they used to show you those I dunno if they maybe stopped) she drank a whisky then flung her towel off and ran bare arsed down an east Scotland beach?

Jade’s audition tape was her climbing through an elastic band.

Yes that was her. BB2 was brilliant, but BB6 is my all time favourite. Makosi is the best housemate of all time, easily.

Anyone remember Mikey and Grace from series 7? Still together and married with kids 20years later.

Awful, awful people the pair of them. There is a Big Brother gossip thread on here somewhere.

Edit: Here it is. Lots of anecdotes from over the years

Generally I'm a lurker but I know you'll all be jealous of my BB2 Elizabeth meet.

Her and Dean (Brummie, also boring) did a book signing at my local WHSmith. Me and my colleagues decided to go on our lunch break. The queue was huge (!) But I used to work there so an ex colleague said I'd won a competition and let us in at the front

When they came out, Elizabeth said oh wow the queue is massive, you must have waited hours to meet us. I said oh no I used to work here and was allowed in first 😂

I remember being excited when I went to stay with my folks who had the channel you could watch the live feed on, during BB1. I’d get up early to spend 15 minutes watching nothing…they were all still asleep 🤣

My then boyfriend, now husband was working away and he’d always ask for a BB update when he phoned. This was first one only.
It was this that turned me off all reality TV. I had an epiphany as I was sitting there watching complete strangers sleeping. I thought 'is this what my life has come to'
