Aye I can tell from what was in the bags and the actual bags they were in. Makes me sick, but I try to tell people that social work give out these presents to all the wrong folk. My mums neighbours get them and they have the best of gear, everything they need, but because they have behavioural issues the three weans get them. My mum said the social work were out delivering them with Santa hats on yday. I donate every year to the Salvation Army toy appeal, they help genuine kids who will wake up with nothing, and don’t deliver the presents until Christmas Eve. I’ve seen social work having Christmas parties for kids at this time of year and handing out the bags from Spirit of Christmas and the weans all open them there and then. They’re not being used for what they are intended for.

I donated to that spirit of Christmas one year. It was to be dropped at Women's Aid. I picked 2 teenage girls as my own girls were the same age. I bought one of the massive gift bags each and put loads in it. I thought it would be going to girls in refuge who weren't getting anything at all on Christmas morning. I went to drop off at women's aid and walked by this door and there was loads of toys discarded on the floor out of boxes in a big pile, and this woman was like hugging them bringing them forward to her, and another woman was taking stuff out the donated bags. I went to reception to hand my stuff in and she took my name and email for a thank you. Heard nothing. They had shut the door when I walked back.

Then pics of all the parties that social work have for the kids were posted on the page. And the kids were getting the gifts then.

I think alot of these Christmas appeals are just handed out to anyone. For the past few years I have had phone calls from the housing, health visitor and been asked at nursery&school if I want my name put down for donations from different charities etc for the kids. I've always politely declined, My kids don't need it. I know we can never truly know anyone's circumstances but I think it's fairly obvious that they don't so I do get a bit annoyed at being asked. I think we're offered because of them having additional needs and getting UC top up. Lots of people happily take when their kids will have a decent Christmas without it. Some people are just greedy and will take anything for the sake of a freebie while knowing there are genuine cases of kids getting up to nothing on Christmas morning!

It’s absolutely shocking and I really wish more people were aware of where their donations were going. The majority aren’t given to children to wake up to on Christmas morning and that’s what people think. It’s absolutely shocking.

And you just know there will be people taking those bags from all the agencies when they don’t need them.

They absolutely do and don’t get me started on the cash for kids money that’s given to social work! A guy I know who doesn’t have his kids got it one year! Make it make sense £150 for a kid he didn’t have custody of

That's the way it was made out. Honestly I was thinking it was a poor soul fleeing from violence and they would have nothing to wake up to. My friend did a few bags and so did her Mum. I said to her what I'd saw.

Our school did a Xmas appeal thing after covid and a Mum I know got stuff. She goes on loads of holidays abroad a year, she gambles really badly. Her and her partner live separately, she gets all the benefits, a 3 bed house paid, no council tax. She said to me they were split up and he leaned over and kissed her at one of the kids shows, I was like 😱😱

Exactly this. The reality is it’s kids who have both parents out working minimum wage jobs that will be the ones waking up with next to nothing but they get no help as they aren’t known to services, because they don’t abuse them. As I said, the Salvation Army toy appeal is usually great and the only charity I donate to at Christmas.
