It’s really bizarre to me that she just doesn’t use an agency for this. Surely she can afford it. I worry about what kind of person she would be leaving alone with the children without proper vetting 😟

We all need help with that, unfortunately most of us can't afford to hire someone to do the bullshit tasks around the house. I "reset" the house once the kids are asleep, or worst case it just doesn't get done. It's a "season" of life where it's chaos, things are messy and unorganized.
Get the kids involved with making dinner, get them to help pack up toys.
