Love it! I did a bit clear-out recently (more of a lockdown activity than desperately needed) but it felt good to bin the stuff I’d been herded into buying from GTL (mainly the famous reckon lip butters which I just never got on with). It was more to get rid of old, dry or broken products I’d thrown in a drawer. Now I have a great system of the things I use everyday in an easy-to-access place and my going out stuff in a box nearby.

Excellent! That's what I want, just a small amount of products, not dithering over 60 lipsticks each morning (okay slight exaggeration but you know what I mean). When I finish a blusher or whatever, I'll replace it. So much more satisfying

Yeah - I do think this “influencer” business has convinced us that having 10 foundations & 75 lipsticks is normal. It isn’t. It just isn’t normal for a regular person.

Totally. It actually makes me angry that the influencer culture peddled the whole "life is short so just buy yet another lipstick" shtick and more importantly, that I fell for it, thinking it was "empowering". From now on, I'll own one foundation, one blusher (despite what Sali says, I don't need a matching blusher for every lipstick), one concealer and so on. Will have a small rotation of lipsticks but that's it. Owning as much makeup as a makeup artist is not empowering or creative, despite what Sali says

Okay all, I've cracked the code. During Freaky Friday when EJ asked where we lived, it wasn't for any nefarious reasons. He wanted to post a tenner through our catflaps because he felt sorry for us. What a misunderstood guy!

I want to end the sales concept that "women need to find the one [foundation/concealer/whatever]" for them. Like browsing Selfridges is an Indiana Jones tale to find their [beauty] Holy Grail.
Tbh I now get more satisfaction form finishing a product (which sounds indulgent but over the years I collected alot of samples which I saved for future holidays - not much chance of that on the horizon). I hated the idea of throwing them away, but keeping them was clutter central.

I totally agree with the satisfaction, I've just finished a concealer and I'm so happy. It really is a better way of operating than owning loads of products that gather dust. The products cluttering up the place are just a reminder on all the money wasted

Two things which give me the rage: "HG" (holy grail) and "hauls" which make me feel quite sick.

If we haven't yet settled on a new thread title I'm still quite keen on one that references her (or others) making up what's being said here. New suggestions:

Sali Hughes #18: Read all the latest speculation about her height!

or

Sali Hughes #18: No valid criticism, just endless bizarre speculation about her height

or as you were...

Did she really equate being a massive unchecked consumer with creativity?
She equates what she does with journalism, so...

Agree with all of you. Before YouTube, influencers etc. I had one foundation and one concealer, used them until I ran out. Same with mascara. This will work for some, maybe not for others, but I was really spending way too much money on cosmetics thinking it was "my thing" or something.

She said something along the lines of "makeup is about creativity"

Same. I almost believed it was a personality trait.

I was stupid enough to think I absolutely needed blusher. Nars Orgasm, obviously. It looked horrible and I never wear blusher anyway.
