Sali Hughes #11 A red lip, a pink tight, a leopard boot - how very singular!

OT but I was bored and was reading Mumsnet earlier and saw a thread about menopause horror stories and symptoms. I'm now dreading it. Please someone tell me it's not that bad?
I don't think there's anything else in life where people's experience varies so widely - from no symptoms at all to being completely debilitated. My personal experience is that bioidentical HRT relieved all my symptoms. I'm not planning on stopping take it.

Do inform yourself and don't put up with a GP who knows less than you do. If you do find yourself at the highly symptomatic end of the spectrum, ask for a referral to an HRT specialist.

ETA: I should probably say 'Menopause specialist'. I appreciate that HRT is not right for everyone.

It's not that bad at all. Menopause is the latest bandwagon 'beauty writers' have jumped on because they all get private prescription hrt...and the payout from big pharma shits all over the sums they get from beauty. And not only does hrt permanently increase your risk of breast cancer, but it doesn't 'cure' menopause, it just staves it off. When you come off the hrt, you'll go through the menopause. Much like methadone staves off detox if you're a heroin addict, except with hrt there is no tapering.

Is she trying to kill us off with such boring, pointless, uninspiring columns?
Definitely! She's so boringly consistent there's nothing new to say

I think of the menopause as a bit like puberty tbh - your body goes a bit crazy as does your mind plus bleeping weight gain. I'm out the other side and fine now. No periods is brilliant. To go away or do anything without one appearing or the fear of it is so liberating. The worst was the mind fog which I had not been warned about and a bit of depression due to no more children (which I knew I didn't want anyway but your mind does play tricks). Also I felt I suddenly looked older very quickly but again my mind was being very strange. I definitely lost my mojo confidence wise. I was lucky in that I didn't have night sweats once - but day ones a few times which were bizarrely debilitating - not just a bit warm and sweaty but as if my skin was painfully hot and prickly and each one lasted hours. Wtf. I didn't have HRT - not for any other reason than by the time I dithered and considered it I really was over the worst.
Oh dear I'm aware this may not be helping. It is a funny old time. Not horrendous - but I wish I had been prepared for the psychological effects as well as the physical.

The medicalisation of menopause, is ... interesting, isn't it?
Yes. And particularly interesting that it has been picked up so quickly by CH, CM, SH influencers etc and all in the last year or so.

Interesting too that they seem a bit young really for menopause (yes, some women will hit it earlier, but fifties is more typical not forties). Do all beauty journalists hit (peri)menopause in their forties?

Interesting also that they all yap effusively about bespoke hrt from private doctors. Haven't seen any of them mention the breast cancer risk either.
