I am a dog lover and have my own but my god when is this ever going to end!? And I'm really not surprised to see what breed was involved

Dog attacks are spiralling out of control, it’s terrifying. For a dog to attack like that it surely can’t have been the first time it’s shown any aggression. Owners need to take responsibility for their animals, but the owners are the problem (and I say this as a dog owner!)

The bully breeds can be so powerful and they’re just everywhere now with owners who have no idea of how to train or control them.

Absolutely not saying the girl did anything like this to the dog who attacked her, but The DM shouldn’t (imo) have included a photo of the little girl with her arms wrapped around the neck of one of their own dogs.

We have one that has just been removed by police from its home. Honestly the loveliest staffie BUT the owners kept it locked up all day in a tiny flat with no walks and they actively trained it to protect them so when the owner was arrested on assault charges, it went for a police officer and injured them badly.
I know it always tends to be the same breeds we hear these stories with but if the owners understood the demands of those breeds and gave them sufficient exercise and trained them properly then this wouldn’t happen as much.

Absolutely agree, it’s the owners.

Staffies are lovely natured unless treated and trained otherwise.

That poor child. I feel uncomfortable about her photos being splashed all over the paper though; what if she doesn't want them immortalised?

We really ought to go back to having proper checks on people who have dogs and stronger legislation. Also, owners who let their dogs off the lead to attack other dogs seem to face very few repercussions as "dog on dog" seems to be accepted as "one of those risks".

I don’t know much about bullies but I am from South Africa, land of “Jock of the Bushveld” and where Staffies, German Shepards and Rottweilers are all very popular. The reason they’ll popular is that they make for good guard dogs in a country where house burglaries are common AND they are great family members. Mauling of children by these breeds just does not happen in SA, to the extent that it happens in the UK because by and large, these dogs are kept by people with large gardens and the dogs get a lot of exercise.
People understand the breeds can be dangerous as they will protect their families from perceived threats because they are extremely loyal and devoted animals. They are therefore trained accordingly.
I feel like in the UK, these dogs are often bought as a status symbol. They tend to live in tiny flats and don’t get sufficient exercise or appropriate training. It’s then a recipe for disaster.

I agree. They attract abusive, crappy, asshole owners. Usually men with inferiority complexes who feel empowered because they’ve weaponised their animal.

I never feel scared of dogs, but I feel scared of owners with certain types of dogs. Especially when I have my little fluffy dog out on walks.

When she was a puppy we were having dinner at a restaurant and eating outside. There was a guy who basically… fit the description of a chavvy drug dealer. He could barely control his large bull mastiff, but seemed to love intimidating people with this fact. He was exaggerating how strong the dog pulling him was, it was pathetic. As if to say “careful round me, look how big and out of control my dog is”. The dog deserved so much better.

im mostly nervous about my little dog setting one off, rubbing them up the wrong way and getting mauled. I tend to give the dodgy looking staffie/pit owners a wide berth. It’s not because I think the dogs are awful, but rather I don’t trust the dog because of their owner. It sounds judgemental but there is a scummy type of person who is drawn to those breeds who use them for tools of intimidation or status symbols and care nothing about the dogs well-being.

I came across this on her Tiktok last night, do you think she's harmed the baby because she fell out with babies dad? I have to say her Tiktok is wild.. I agree with another poster saying she could've been talking about taking her bins out. I seen 0 emotion when she spoke about wee Thea ☹️

I think I’m the opposite, working with dogs it’s been very rare that I’ve met an aggressive staffy, I actually can’t remember any of the top off my head but I’m sure there must have been some. When my parents were looking for a family dog when I was younger they asked the vets for advice of a breed and they recommend two breeds and one was a staffy
As a dog groomer I couldn’t agree more, never met a single aggressive staffy and I’ve groomed easily 100. They are great family dogs, I wouldn’t say they have a guarding instinct g in my experience. Most would go off with anyone that showed them attention.

I agree usually happy friendly but even if they aren’t and are nervous the ones I remember have been submissive rather than aggressive.
Breeds in most wary of are husky’s, malamutes, golden retrievers, frenchies and shar peis

It’s terrifying. I’ve got a dog (bulldog/beagle cross) and I would absolutely trust her implicitly - but ONLY with me. She’s never shown any sign of being aggressive but that doesn’t mean I’d take it for granted that she isn’t, or couldn’t be around other people. By the same logic, I’d never 100% trust somebody else’s dog either.

Just been having a look on her tik tok as well. 🤬 The absolute brass neck on it! No words for scum like that. Hope she gets annihilated in prison. That poor, sweet tiny baby 💔💔 and the other 2 little pets having that thing as a mother. Hope she never gets to lay eyes on those babies again.
