The problem with businesses like Popsy is exactly the same as the problem with influencers. They create a cult community, inviting people to behave like one big happy family, the head honcho of the cult community gives the sheep access to their lives (or what feels like it), making them feel all warm and fuzzy like they actually have friends. Unfortunately, many of the people who fall for these sorts of sales tactics are usually vulnerable, with low confidence or self-esteem, so they crave the attention and become overly attached. This isn't their fault, the lines are drawn so vaguely that they think the likes of Cherish, Popsy etc. (Mrs Hinch, Stacey Solomon too) actually care about them, when all they care about is money and exposure. They've created a monster, so when people pay their money for things their expectations get blown out of proportion and end up hurt or disappointed. I know we take the piss out of the people in the Popsy groups, but part of me feels sorry for them too. They've been sucked into something insidious and damaging, and when they see the light they're going to get a big reality check.
