I'm sure the people who have bought their old home will feel overjoyed to know that they got mugged right off and paid £100,000 over what they should have realistically. Bet the estate agent was rubbing his greedy little hands too.

Unbelievable that they are openly bragging about this in a blog post. Can't help but feel thyr have not been really honest and they sold it purely for new content.

The new house is very similar to my partner's folks main home except they only have one bay window downstairs, not two, and more land at the back. Lots of work for Ian though. I'm sure Ross will just enjoy sitting on his arse being a right bitch as usual.

A house is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Yeah, I undertand that. I'm sure we've all watched Location, Location, Location and I actually worked in the mortgage industry for 24 years.

But still, these people were relocating from the USA to the UK and got a bit stitched up by the sounds of it. Yes, they were very stupid to pay over the odds - maybe they didn't do much research, maybe they just really fell in the love with the house, who knows? - but the whole tone of that blog post feels like a massive "we got one over on the buyers and all our neighbours"🖕🏼 and that over the top sale price will now completely skew the selling prices in the area and, in particular, that road thus further adding fuel to an already ridiculous house price situation in this country.

Had he said it was 100000 over asking price. I’ve missed that. Crazy amount of money

The whole process I thought was interesting when I read it. They basically had the house valued by 3 agents. Two valued it at similar prices (which happened to be the average in the area) and one listed it 100K above that.

It was four agents. Two came in at £475,000, one at £485,000 and then one at £585,000.

No they definitely didn’t as they showed insta stories packing it up and sold the big dresser

Oh I missed that It will be interesting to see what they do (Ian does) with this one, wonder if they will churn out the same style? There is some amazing Victorian Renos atm with so much style.

It’s quite common to have varying valuations. A lot of estate agents come in a bit lower to exceed expectations when it’s sold and some give a big valuation to try and secure the gig (Hamptons are notorious for this) I have always gone with the middle valuation when I’ve sold. And most properties where I live down south always go masses over the guide price, as it’s just a guide not the actual price. As someone said above, the house would be worth what someone is willing to pay 🤷‍♀️ And if they got multiple offers then went to sealed bids, that always pushes up the price. I’ve not read the article so not sure if they did that?

Like I said, I worked in the mortgage industry for 24 years including eighteen months spent selling repossessions in the 1990's, during the recession, so please believe me when I say I know all about the games estate agents play. I also watched LLL for many years 😂 Not now as everyone on there just seems to be a cunt these days including the presenters.

And no, it did not go to sealed bids in their case - just a lady relocating from the USA to the UK.

I just didn't like the tone of the whole post. There was no need to go into all the details except to humble brag about how 'clever' they were for getting someone to pay a completely unrealistic and over the top price for what is a three bedroom semi. The world has gone fucking mad.

Would the mortgage

Would the mortgage company not value it down? That usually happens on a normal sale, let alone a overpriced one.

It would be the surveyor who provides the valuation figure that the lender would work on and you're right, it happens especially with new builds. I'm really surprised he/she didn't in this case given what appears to be the comparable evidence in the area.
