Nigel Farage

This thread is a real eye-opener - and not in a good way. It brings to mind some of the stuff I've read about murderers, psychopaths, paedophiles, mobsters, 'respectable' celebrities etc. There's always people saying how nice & ordinary they seemed, so when anything emerges suggesting they're far from it, the response is to excuse them or act shocked.

As far as Farage goes, I'd always advise his fans to follow the money. He's a serial grifter just like Yaxley-Lennon & Hopkins. The Breaking Point poster (and many other public comments) show he's happy to stir up hatred, weaponise prejudice and claim to be anti-establishment while being affiliated with and in receipt of donations from some very sketchy billionaire funded right-wing/libertarian groups.

His latest performative 'victimhood' is par for the course. More fool ITV for paying him £1.5m to play out his 'man of the people' shtick to viewers, many of whom (sad to say) place "personality" above any sort of principled approach to public service. Another example is his commitment to destroying the NHS in favour of a US-style insurance model, despite the NHS saving his sorry arse a few years back.

This is not me calling voters thick, it's decrying the sorry state of our heavily biased media and massively underfunded education system, both of which mean that civic understanding and critical thinking skills are not hugely valued or encouraged by the establishment.

Yeah but again the hyperbole, just make your point without comparing him to murderers and paedophiles
Have some boo boo in blue

I wasn't directly comparing him to murderers and paedophiles though, merely pointing out how some people react to dodgy characters by finding every excuse under the sun for the stuff they actually do & say.

Maybe you could try responding to some of the more substantive points I made instead of posting fangurl/boi memes?

Do you agree with his stated aim to replace the NHS with a US-style healthcare system?

What are your thoughts on the sketchy parties he's affiliated with who help to fund him?

Alternatively you could just carry on kissing his saggy arse because he's FUN and surely that's the most important quality in any politician? 🤪

He’s only proposing another solution for the NHS as it’s not working well any more, 90% of the reason being that the population has more than doubled and 10% because of bad management. I don’t think he WANTS to privatise. What solution has anyone else offered?
Sketchy parties I’ll have to research when I have time later today, but ALL politicians are sleazy and get dodgy handouts/associates. Name me one squeaky clean politician :)

He's an abhorrent grifting racist.

I've given you multiple example with direct quotes ffs 🤣

I enjoyed Munya Chawawa's Farage sketch at the start of the week. This also had some examples.

And if you think motorway driving in this country isn't plagued by obscene traffic every day of the week, I have to conclude you live on the Isle of Wight.

You said it had gotten worse. I wasn't debating that traffic is bad, but that it hasn't spiralled with the volume of Hull migrants cutting down the M1 in their Corsas.

There were examples in those articles. Here's another one https://www.thepinknews.com/2023/11/30/nigel-farage-cameo-homophobia/
Oh lord 😳

I’m going to go for it though. It’s a CAMEO. The brief was to make an insulting video for an individual who you assume shares that sense of humour. Cameo’s full of celebrities calling Bob from Essex a bender etc. Of course it’s offensive, but they just follow the brief from the person who wants it made.
Nige is an older generation and he probs just said the most offensive thing he could think of because that’s what he was told to do. He was actively trying to be offensive for a joke, not giving his opinion. He says it himself, “I’m being paid to insult you”. And then just thinks okay, what’s REALLY insulting and REALLY out there that suits my brand and this bloke who commissioned me needs his money’s worth, and goes for a racist slur with a sexual element.

Very bad judgement though.

Oh hell to the no, not the 'older generation' one. Come on man. He's a politician, not a doddery old lad sat in his care home in Wigan.

I'm not from a 'woke' generation and the first insult that would spring to mind if I were being deliberately provocative would definitely not be those. He's either catastrophically stupid, arrogant, or both, to do that and assume it's acceptable (and that it wouldn't get out).

Agreed actually on all your points. Absolutely moronic and very strange. It was stupid and arrogant.

It had a context. He’s an out there sort of bloke. It doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ‘a racist’.

It happened before cancel culture. If you told your dad to come up with something as outrageous as possible he’d probably go for swear words and racism.

It hasn't though, has it? It's because we've an ageing population (need more care to stay alive) and a vast (no pun intended) section of the population is overweight or obese and their joints are collapsing and need replacing / they're getting diabetes / having heart and blood pressure issues as a result.

Daughter's an A&E doctor so that's right from the horse's mouth. Plus the government is starving the NHS of money & failing to recruit so people burn out and leave / emigrate - they can't get doctors and nurses to fill the posts, but they're also restricting new training or removing bursaries so applicants can't afford to spend a couple of years without a salary while they train.

Anyone wanting the US system is insane - I employ people in the US. We offer good health insurance & pay all premiums for our workers, but even with that they still have to pay 8k out of their own pockets for treatments in a year before the insurance kicks in & covers the rest.

The NHS is regularly given billions, it's hardly underfunded. Inflation has meant the money doesn't go so far but that could be helped by removing some over paid middle managers.
I don't know anyone who wants a US style health system 🤷‍♀️ but also I think that's because most people's knowledge on it stretches as far as thinking you have to pay for everything which isn't true. Those on welfare have their basic health care paid for and more options for others.
There are plenty of European health systems we could look to for ideas as they work unlike ours. Wouldn't that be better all round? Admitting the NHS can't exist like it is and changing it for the better. Change is good if it's needed, evolving to the times we live in currently.
And if people want to eat, drink, smoke themselves to death that's their choice. They won't change until they want to. I can't understand it as it's so far removed from the life I choose and can see that money would be saved if those people didn't make those choices but do we want to live in a society where people are forced to not do things that are perfectly legal? Better idea to show them better choices and a realistic idea of how their life could improve so they can change and then inspire others around them.

Ah, for a European health care system. I'd take the French or German systems - great emphasis on preventative medicine :) I'm definitely not arguing the NHS doesn't need massive reform, though some sort of Euro-style insurance element will mean those who make bad choices do pay more via their premiums. I'm just saying that UK hospitals aren't malfunctioning currently because they're full of immigrants - unless you count the doctors & nurses we lure here so we don't have to cough up to train people - there just aren't enough medical staff and the population, its age and life choices = huge demand.
