I used to watch Neighbours religiously about 5-10 years ago. Haven watched for years now. I don’t recognise any of the character names you’re all talking about.

Is it good at the moment? Is it worth me getting back into?

I hadn’t watched for about 18 months and this week I tried to get back into it but it’s just a huge cringe fest. I still keep up with the spoilers and storylines etc as I’ve watched it since the very start but it’s just dire now. Maybe if some old characters or even some new interesting ones then it might suck me back in but the current cast just doesn’t work for me.

OK I have done more homework in to what Nicola Charles said. So the previous six names I mentioned this was their last episode.....

Marlene: Left in October 1997 for a three month cruise and never returned. Died in real life January 2018.

Helen: Also left in October 1997 and died in real life in 1999 after two decades of ill health.

Cheryl: Last appeared September 1996 and still alive.

Angie: Ended her first run in 1997, last appearance was 2017. Still alive.

Madge: Last appearance 2015 as a "vision". Still alive.

Pam: Has a brief return in 1996 so wasn't one of the big characters by that point. Last on the show 2016 when her characters husband Doug died.

So I wouldn't say it's Madge, Angie or Pam as they have been brought back since the 90s so the show hasn't washed their hands of them. Cheryl Stark was played by Caroline Gilmer who was ill so replaced by Colette Mann who now plays Shiela and then she took back over to be killed off.

Could it be Cheryl was killed off because of it? Caroline Gilmer said made out she left for other acting opportunities but I haven't seen her in anything since Neighbours and her partnership with Lou Carpenter was very popular.....

Helen if she had ill health for twenty years I think if it was her they might have used that as a reason for writing her out sooner than the year after the incident in 1997.

Marlene played by Moya O'Sullivan could be the one......

She would have been seventy in 1996 and it's the sort of comment a older person would say more likely by not realising how offensive they have been as a generational thing. How silly her leaving storyline was which seemed abrupt and that she never returned looks like it a rushed decision forced on them. Nicola not naming a name makes me think it's someone deceased who can't defend themselves.

I have just literally remembered Marlene did not come back from her 3 month cruise now 🤣

Haha the glory days. I saw this old article of Neighbours scandal but the only one I hadn't heard before was the Eliza Szonert story....

Danni Stark is probably my first Neighbours crush and I would have been barely double figures with her in her late teens with our age gap lol.

It's boring now and seems very plasticy ... something about the sets screams, 'cheap'.

It must surely be Reg Grundy.

So there are racism issues from the 90s as well as the newer ones that have come to light? Admittedly I'm not surprised, especially as it's Australia but it's still really disappointing and awful to hear about. I'm dying for them to be named and shamed at some point!

1) If someone has been racist name and shame them so the whole cast aren't wrongly under suspicion.

2) She said she wouldn't work for the show again, well I doubt they would want her after tarnishing the show.

3) I haven't seen any cast member speak out in support of her or to question what she's saying, so it's probably true and they have been told by their big bosses to not mention it on social media.

Apparently some cast members did speak out in support but then deleted the comments, presumably because they were told to by the shows producers.

I wonder they were if it indeed happened. Plenty of old cast members are talking out now.

I just find it so random (and unnecessary?) to have a beach bar within the Lassiter’s complex. It’s completely random and I just don’t get it! Unless they are trying to make Neighbours have a more beachy vibe. But that’s Home and Away’s scene. Anyway, this might just be me and you disagree!
I lot of the sets aren’t being shown at the moment like the garage and the workshop.
