I watched it when broadcast as it was a big deal in K-town at the time for 5 mins and everyone else did.

Spoiler: she uses drain pipes as a mould for mash potato.
I remember my late Grandma saying at the time doing that was an embarassment and made us all in Keighley look backward.

Now my Grandma was a proper straight talking Keighley lass not a snarky pretender like Bev.

She washed and blow dried her hair before everytime she went out, always wore a heel on her shoes and was never above a size 8 (sadly not inherited this )
She had severe COPD in the end and still made the effort to go the salon, which was upstairs with no lift, on her own. Took her half hour a time to get up but she always did it. When the salon owner said he would visit her at home she refused, she wanted the dignity of still going there herself.
She never used an oxygen tank or mask either even when offered (which i'm not condoning) but my god, she formidably proud woman.
Million miles away from Bev. Making no effort with yourself is not the Yorkshire trait that Bev implys.

I just watched the first episode and Jesus Christ how many times does she have to mention she’s a yorkshire lass, literally her only personality trait, also she’s aged sooo much in these 10 years. Suppose being a nasty piece of work really doesn’t help the cause

I think she is an extremely insecure person and the 'I don't care about my appearance' and loud behaviour is a cover for it.
She knows she is not a looker and probably got judged alot for it when young.
Saying she doesn't care about her appearance and doesn't like makeup and getting her hair done is her creating an excuse of 'well if I wanted to make the effort I could look better I just don't want to.'
The dressing up as 'ugly' characters like Susan Boyle and an Oompa Loompa on cannonball is her way of protecting herself from criticism by giving the excuse of 'i'm ugly because of the costume'.

Her insecurity is really obvious as she flys off the handle about any comments about her appearance (the one she doesn't care about )
Also on Come Dine with Me her insecurity is really obvious when she was with women who had big personalitys and looked after their appearance she HATED it.
She criticised them for putting in so much effort and kept reminding them she'd been married for decades so didn't need to.

Tiredgranny72 is right. She clearly hates the life she has now.
-lives in grey, dull and deprived town (I know grew up there and lived there 29 years)
-Only just in her 60s but looks in her 70s
-Works nights as a carer and can't afford to retire
-Husband that sleeps his way through day rather than talk to her

Convincing herself she is a celebrity is delusion she has created as escapism.
Also people as nasty as her are never happy no matter how many false smiles and big jolly personality they try to put on.

Thank you, thank you for summing her up so completely! Your analysis of her personality is flawless, I agree 100%. I think what you said about the town she lives in, only you are qualified to say because you’ve had first hand experience of it, but everyone who hasn’t was probably thinking it! I once stayed just outside Keighley at a family friend’s house in the countryside around there. The countryside is lovely, but we ventured into the town and I was depressed at its grimness and deprivation. I know there are places like that everywhere, but as a setting for the saga of nana bea, it puts everything into perspective about her desire to be noticed.

I’m so glad you confirmed that she was like that on Come Dine With Me- I saw it years ago and remember so clearly how bitter she was with the other female contestants.

She really is a fascinating person to observe for exactly the reasons you outlined!!

Easy mistake but she had them leopard loafers on. They're her fancy shoes.
Whenever she wears them she's off somewhere extra special like wetherspoons, toby carvery, her solo trips to London etc


Notice when Dave says 'how the hell do I do that?'
How aggressive she sounded with her 'well just try.' Response through gritted teeth.
