Monsters - Eric and Lyle Menendez, Netflix

I also disliked them dismissing Erik's mouth injury as some sort of 'comedy moment' by showing the adult Erik slipping with a popsicle in his mouth, when the injury happened to him as a small child and a doctor TESTIFIED that this type of injury was seen

in cases of sexual abuse

Can I ask where did you get your info on the facts of the case originally? Had a google but mostly see just news articles with a summary of stuff shown in the Netflix show but want more details in terms of the evidence of abuse etc

The entire first trial is available to watch on YouTube under 'Menendeztrials'

Just finished it this evening. I’m intrigued to what happened to then once they got separated. Have they even been reunited? (Excuse my ignorance)

In February 2018, Lyle was transferred to a housing unit at Richard J. Donovan in San Diego, and in April of that same year, Erik moved into the same unit as Lyle.

Before that they had been incarcerated separately for over 20 years.

Okay I've gone and read more about this case, and ... sorry they need to just free these boys now and stop this madness.

They were absolutely failed by the court.

I hope the new interest sparks something that gets them out so they can have a chance at normal life, which they've never had.

I finished watching this last night and felt a little emotional. I’d never even heard of this story - it happened the year I was born so even the trials I’d have been too young to hear about.

I didn’t read their story before starting the show as didn’t want to know anything, so perhaps it did draw me in more than it would have done had I known more. As others have said, I found some of it humourous, it was almost like I was watching Stepbrothers at times!

The music used pulled on my emotions too - I’m Gonna Miss You being played with they were separated and then way it was filmed, plus Don’t Dream It’s Over during another episode. Then of course the episode 5 monologue.

I thought they were great actors, particularly Cooper Koch. I also thought Ari Graynor was really compelling.

I’m just watching it now and I think it’s been done quite well. Covering everyone’s points of view. I remember watching a documentary about years ago and even back then I thought the sentence they got was so unfair. The level of abuse they suffered by their parents was unimaginable. The father in particular was a monster. I hope they are finally able to have a fair retrial one day.

I have been following this case for years and totally believe they were abused. I do think they should've got prison sentences but I think they need to be out now. People who have done far worse have been let out. I don't think they are violent and a threat to anyone.

Watched the documentary, made me believe them more than the drama did.

I think it should have been manslaughter as i believe the abuse. Although I have a niggle of doubt as to how threatened their life was. But regardless, the abuse should have been enough to get manslaughter and that second trial was not fair.

I got bored with Monsters, also thought they were giving off something incestuous in it that wasn't there. I did watch the new documentary though which I preferred, and by the end of it I did come away feeling like they should be released now. I also don't believe that their lives were in danger but I do believe the level of abuse they received.

I liked it, but I do love me a bit of Ryan Murphy trash.

Javier Bardem was, as ever, immense.

Casting was good, especially for Leslie Abramson.

Watched the documentary afterwards. Jeez, the defence lawyer, threatening to shoot TikTokkers 😬😬

Thought it was great that for such a high-profile trial, all 3 of the principal lawyers were women.

I wasn't too worried about the defence lawyers shooting comment tbh. Having seen how obsessive and extreme tiktokers are, I can completely understand her being defensive. I watched a documentary on Nicola Bulley and how tiktokers and youtubers acted was frankly disgusting and criminal.
