Anyone else watching the last in the Monsters anthology series?

I'm not finding this quite as good or captivating as Dhamer, but I think that's due to the lower body count and its a different story, more about their psychology.

But the lead performances are very strong and sraw you in, and worryingly I'm slightly attracted to them lol

Just finished. Appreciate it's a dramatisation of the case but this version made me feel really sad for the boys (and yes to the attraction!!!).

IF their account is accurate then they should not be where they are, but if it was all incredibly good story telling then they are absolutely in the right place.

The episode (4?) where it was almost a complete monologue was bloody good acting!

It’s weird it’s been remade when a drama series on them was made two years ago but I’ve still watched the 1st episode. It’s very similar to the other series made a couple of years ago so it’s a bit repetitive in the storytelling as it’s exactly the same style of drama

Warning spoilers ahead

I thought it was awful. Yes, the boys playing Lyle and Erik were good, but Ryan Murphy once again takes style over substance. Why he chose to portray Lyle as a narcissistic drug addict who was horrible to everyone around him, when the real Lyle was actually quite meek and mild, why there was a scene where Erik was complaining about being put in glasses he 'didn't need' (he did wear glasses) and the weird incest vibe between the brothers when IRL the two of them found it difficult to show affection to each other after everything that had happened...

It just could have been so much better. I'm disappointed.

Ryan Murphy always has to have a gay angle, especially with attractive young actors. There's quite a creepy element to him.

I finished it and didn't think it was a patch on Dhamer. There were some great moments (e.g. the monologue episode) but otherwise it just dragged and so much is made up as there's so much we don't know. The fact the one crime happens and they're caught so early on doesn't help. I don't think their story was enough for a whole series.

I also disliked them dismissing Erik's mouth injury as some sort of 'comedy moment' by showing the adult Erik slipping with a popsicle in his mouth, when the injury happened to him as a small child and a doctor TESTIFIED that this type of injury was seen

in cases of sexual abuse

I really think one day we will get a Dan Schneider exposé on some of a Ryan Murphys antics because it's weird AF

I do think the story is enough for a series but not that many episodes eg the OJ filler story could of can shorter or Ryan Murphy could of actually done more research into their parents upbringing too.

Ryan Murphy essentially told us nothing new but just added some random "sexiness" which was not needed at all.

Yeah I agree, there is something off about Ryan Murphy and an expose wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Yeah it was all very gay baity when there's very little evidence either were gay. It felt more gratuitous and sensationalist go get people viewing and talking

I remember this case as I was a kid in the 90s, and there was a Hallmark movie about it. I've just started episode 1 of this Netflix thing and have burst out laughing several times? I don't think this is as intended. Yeah I'm not going to continue.

Even in the opening scene I thought they were going to start bleeping in the limo & I was hiding behind a cushion lol 😑

I’m just watching this now, what happened to Eriks friend in prison? Was this part true or just put in the series?

I was looking forward to it, I remember the case at the time as I am about the same age as they are. Also as the case has been in the news a fair bit over the last couple of years, I had re-familiarised.

Anyway I am not enjoying it, I am finding it quite gratuitous and I seem to be in a minority that didn’t think the Erik / solicitor scene was well done, in fact I fast forwarded through it after twenty minutes or whatever. Not sure I will finish it, if I do it will only be for completeness. 😁
