My New Years plans have been cancelled so I think I might just have a small gathering with a few friends and familyWhat's everyones plans for new years? I hate to be like Madison but I love a low key NYE with my man's and kind of hoping the gathering I am going to gets cancelled ?
Is NYE horrible to work on mom? Can imagine loads of people drunk in A and EI’m working this New Year’s Eve sadly but then have a bit time off after so it’s not all bad. Hope everyone had a good Christmas/if you don’t celebrate Christmas just enjoyed having a quiet day off
This sounds cutee! The gathering I am going to is not really with people I know so not as funMy New Years plans have been cancelled so I think I might just have a small gathering with a few friends and family

Me and my partner have a mortgage here but I want to sell eventually/rent the house out and go back home to Australia when I finally can do you think you’ll be staying at your partner’s parents the full year? Or only for a few months? Houses are so expensive nowRandom question - do you guys live at home? Rent? Own a house? We’re moving in with my partners parents so we can save up to buy a house next year and I’m stressed I say we but I mean him, I’ve already saved a good amount. Ugh
It depends but I think so. I’ve saved enough for a deposit but my partner hasn’t and I said it has to be 50/50 (Is that fair? Is that what you did?) Aren’t they! We don’t want to get a new build because the ones where we live are awful so buying and renovating an older house is probably what we’ll do. Who knows. I have no clue about buying a house, I wish they taught you that at school Australia sounds incredible! I think that’s perfectly reasonable, it depends how long you want to stay at his parents/how fast you want to get a place? You could always do the deposit and he could owe you the half of the deposit I guess? I completely agree older houses are so much nicer and you have much more ability to do them up to your liking. It depends but I think so. I have a mortgage with my boyfriend! 50/50 is the way to do it for sure if you arnt married etc (it's the safest way in my opinion!). Also just my opinion but new builds can be really great and affordable but you defo have to be planning to stay in them for 5± years to make them worth it and also storage never seems to be as good?Again just my opinion and older places defo have their cons ( we have a 25 year old bathroom that looks like a rogue Russian hospital room that we need to renovate and I am dreaming of a new build bathroom ) if you need any advice mom I don't think I am an expert by any means but let me/us know!It depends but I think so. How long have you been in the uk mom? I'm always so surprised when Australia's coming here because I don't understand why they would leave the only reason I could think off is that you can travel Europe easilyI think that’s perfectly reasonable, it depends how long you want to stay at his parents/how fast you want to get a place? Me and my partner went halves on everything; because we’re both really good savers and I had a grandparent die and leave me a little bit of money so that definitely helped. Honestly, I can’t even help you, buying a house is so stressful - they teach you nothing at school about things like this and taxes!
thanks angel, I just miss the weather more than
That’s a good idea actually! He earns more than me so he should be able to save up pretty quick for us to go 50/50. I know I wonder if there’s any good websites/Youtube channels/Instagram pages that would be helpful. I’m glad we all seem to agree on going 50/50. I know it would be simpler and less stressful to go for a new build as renovating sounds stressful and overwhelming also I guess we shall see! I’ve been here for like 8 years. I did my nursing degree here (I’m actually half British - so have dual citizenship) there’s pros and cons to living in the UK and Australia but the whole covid thing has made me realise how much I want to go back tbh. The situation here just never seems to be getting better and I’m tired of being separated from my family! I do love the UK and the people here are so lovely and it’s cheaper here than Australia haha xI have a mortgage with my boyfriend! 50/50 is the way to do it for sure if you arnt married etc (it's the safest way in my opinion!). You could try going to a mortgage/financial advisor? They’re pretty handy at explaining things. There is probably a YouTube channel that puts things into easy terms, but I’m so lazy at searching for these things haha. I hope it doesn’t take you long! That’s a good idea actually! I own a flat by myself. If you have a First Mortgage branch near you then I’d highly recommend a visit! They’re 100% free, you don’t ever pay them a penny even if you choose to get your mortgage through them. They gave me great advice and were realistic about what I could afford as a single buyer. Congrats on saving btw, that’s definitely the hardest part I think!Random question - do you guys live at home? Rent? Own a house? I did nursing at uni - 100% recommend it. You'll get your maintenance loan/bursary as well as being able to work as care support work through bank staff or even doing bar work and stuff to support yourself through uni - that's what I didI own a flat by myself. I hope to sell my flat in the next 5 years or so. I plan to move to Australia once I get my career sorted, thinking of going to uni to study nursing but that’s a very scary thought since I have a mortgage. I’ll just need to get better at saving and budgeting I guess!
Yeah here in Scotland nursing and paramedic students get a £10k bursary a year which will come in very handy! I work for NHS atm in an admin role but the department I work in are so supportive and are hoping to let me shadow our lead nurse on outpatient procedures and have me watch a couple of the specialist surgeries our consultants do. Hopefully it gets approved but not sure how strict they are with things like that due to covid. Not planning to apply for nursing until 2023 entry because I need to do an access course first and I’d like to get 6 months - 1 year experience as a HCA or support worker in there too!I did nursing at uni - 100% recommend it. 10k! That's so good! That's really good your work is supportive - perhaps you could even keep your job on there and do less hours or weekends etc. Tbh I didn't do care work before I started my uni course and I can't say it would have given me an advantage in the course because you do placements and during placements you basically learn on the job/you do more of a HCA role than you do of a nurse's role because you're not allowed to do anything when you're training which is really irritating haha. But you go girl, I'm rooting for you!Yeah here in Scotland nursing and paramedic students get a £10k bursary a year which will come in very handy! I think I’ll need a few years of experience as nurse too before I get approved for an Australian visa. You’re so lucky to have dual citizenship!! Don’t get me wrong I love Scotland but I definitely DO NOT love winter here. Darkness for 18 hrs a day and minus temperatures ain’t it
I’d like to keep my job for ease but our clinic is finished by 4pm and admin doesn’t work weekends so it wouldn’t really work alongside uni. I was thinking of doing HCA/support worker more for flexibility of hours, overtime, enhanced rates etc but we’ll see! It’s still verrry early days yet but thank you for the support mom10k! The UK and Australia have just done a free trade deal and from my understanding brits can now go over and work for three years (after covid is more under control obviously haha), I'm not sure how much experience you need in your job though I'm sure it would probably be at least a year. The wages are definitely better over there but the cost of living is way higher. I love Scotland, I'm jealous of all the snow you get
