If she did any research at all she'd know that Sweden did/does have measures in place
Right now they have reached a plateau, which other countries did at some point as well. Could change and skyrocket again any day!
Sweden banned visits to care homes in March in an attempt to slow down the spread among the elderly in those homes and has put measures in place to make sure they are protected (masks, few visitors, distancing, etc!). They encouraged social distancing in Sweden, asking people to work from home where possible, banning mass gatherings for five months in an attempt to slow the transmission. I'm sure Mel thinks that herd immunity is the reason Sweden's deaths have gone down, which is not true!
Sweden did have a high number of deaths, from January to June this year their death toll was the highest in 150 years. With restrictions lifting they could go back in that direction surely. I obviously hope the death rate stays down but it annoys me so much that anti-maskers/conspiracy theorists use Sweden as an example clearly without looking at the facts.
To quote Christian Althaus (epidemiologist): "There is often quite a misconception about what has been done and what is being done in Sweden. Whereas other European countries had maybe more strict measures and lockdowns, but came out of that in April or May, Sweden had softer measures, but kept them in place for a very long time."
