I think he was obsessed with and in love with the version of Maya from the past who he fell in love with but what he probably didn’t think about is that all those years they were broken up a lot happened in those years she was engaged to someone else at one point , her career took off even more so the lifestyle she now lives and enjoys is probably kind of different to what he remembers and as a person she’s changed which is natural people grow and change.

This is my opinion but I do think he lived in the past a lot all the songs he would write about her were about when they were together and in love and I don’t think he ever fully got over her and moved on cause he was always holding onto the past hoping they would get back together whereas I do think she detached herself more than he did after they broke up the last time and if I had to guess I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the one who wanted to end the relationship this time instead of being mutual I would guess it was her who brought up the discussion to end things and maybe he is absolutely fine with things ending and my opinion could be very wrong but for how obsessed he has always been about Maya I would be surprised if he wanted let her go but at the same time maybe he noticed how much she’s changed and he realised she’s not the Maya from the past that he has always had on his mind.

There’s nothing wrong with her changing it’s been years and he’s changed too it’s normal people grow up and can grow apart. Sometimes time apart can make people come back together and it does work out but he’s said in the past he disrespected her and that’s why they broke up so whether that’s cause of cheating or something else , that can really damage a relationship and even if you say sorry and get back on good terms with each other that doesn’t always mean the damage can be reversed because that kind of hurt can change things and cause detachment so things never feel the same again no matter how hard you try that same level of love doesn’t always come back again.
 
Looking at the photos I can’t help but compare Maya to Leomie Anderson on Glow Up. Maya had such style and elegance and Leomie looks like she’s been dressed by someone taking cues from Ab Fab! I’m not particularly a fan of Maya but she definitely wears the clothes, they don’t wear her!
Also, I love that even the link to the Mail article includes Stormzy is 72 years old

There was stories about a musician of a certain age (30s) being done for throttling his partner, people were speculating as to who it was and kept saying Stormz who was 27 at the time and his age was stated so many times the mods did it as a joke and it's happened ever since

Dizzee Rascal is the award winning singer in his 30s arrested by police on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend at her London flat

Cliff Richard's wig must be in its 30s and I imagine was made in London. But it's probably a gay wig anyway.

Just an example about why she and others will avoid it. I think Maya is the one they’d be the worst with tbh, no matter what says they’d do a write-up.
