Matthew Perry

He had the world at his feet in many ways. So many options/things to try out with the funds to do so. Naturally due to addiction issues he couldn't see this.
Better going to Mexico and getting/keeping yourself utterly spannered IMO if that's how things work out.
The whole paying correct respects on social media concerns are a joke tbh. It's an adjunct to life not the other way round.

Depending on your age, a lot of people are shocked how upset they are over Matthew’s death because they perhaps hadn’t realised how much Friends had been there in their lives.
It was constant in so many lives, especially those born in late 80s and the 90s and then it just kept going.
Friends stopped making episodes but they ran forever and now with Netflix it’s always there. When you’re hungover, Sunday morning cooking breakfast, background telly. Always there. So comforting.
So it feels like part of our childhood/formative years has broken off with his death.

Nail on the head. MP as a person I didn't necessarily follow loved friends and I enjoyed studio 60 but yes a lot of the sadness is around and end of an era. Also interesting to see how its playing out aswell with so many background stories. Hank Azarias one in particular I found very sad.
I am incredibly sad for his story but if I heard it about Joe Bloggs I think I'd feel the same sadness.

I was really into Glee when Cody Monteith died and aside from watching the tribute episode I never really watched Glee again, it just wasn’t the same (the new or old episodes). I have watched Friends from my teens, weekly when the episodes first came out, all of my uni flat gathered round my tv for some of the later seasons, I’ve then watched it as a comfort watch throughout my 20s, 30s and 40s. After I heard the news on Sunday I thought I’d struggle to watch it. I felt “off” on Sunday and Monday, not overly grieving, just not great. I happened to turn Friends on on Tuesday evening and it just made me feel better. I didn’t have the same feeling that I did with Glee. And I think that comes down to how much of a comfort and constant Friends has always been for me, and so many other people. It’s so sad and I think a previous poster is right that in a way we’re grieving Chandler, not Matt. It’s so sad about Matt and so sudden but he had a difficult life and I hope that he’s now at peace. I feel so sorry for the other Friends and also his friends and family as they come to terms with this news. Losing anyone is hard but to do it in the glare of the media must be impossible.

I always say no matter the money the great lifestyle people can be effed up. Addiction is an awful thing which takes it's grip and is so hard to get out of. Getting clean and staying that way is hard work. I'm not speculating on his cause of death. It's just so sad and I am sick of (not you) comments int he papers saying he deserved to die because of the drugs and drink.

I think part of the issue was that he had too much money imo. He never had the fear of losing his home or living on the streets.
When you've got $20m a year coming in from Friends royalties you can have anything you want whenever you want it. A recipe for disaster for an addict I'd imagine.

The way prescription meds are given out in the states should quite frankly be criminal. But it never will be as companies make so much money from it. There's too much assumption that because a doctor has prescribed it and it's legal that it's fine. Having good healthcare can make things worse.

His age is no age considering life expectancy, but with what he's been through it's unfortunately what you'd expect.

The cast would only ever release a short statement to acknowledge. There's nothing more to say and they all had different relationships with him. It's not like they're going to meet up to shoot a video or photo.

The media is struggling to get people in his life willing to comment. They've had on people who never met him but had a few lines in one episode on as some expert. The mail is rehashing quotes from years ago to pretend an ex is saying something now. 🙄

the pornstar one is the end for me, honestly I am done. When the cause of death is released I will read that, but i have had enough

Omg same.
I was in college and I was absolutely distraught when Corey died, couldn’t believe it.

The DM are absolutely desperate to dig up some dirt on him.
As it is they keep running stuff that hints at him being slightly sleazy.
Treating the deceased with any respect has always been beyond them.
There’s no libel if you’re dead. That’s why you see a lot of negative hints from the papers once someone dies (unless they’re a bonafide national treasure) it’s literally just cynical clickbait.

The “Friends” actress was seen in an aerial paparazzi shot walking to the cemetery alongside Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Lisa Kudrow.

I am disgusted. I was looking for information on his funeral, and I saw this video. It's basically just a drone shot, but the fact that this is being done just makes me break out in hives. Not only are there shouting paparazzi all over the place in normal circumstances, but now there are drone paparazzi that can infiltrate private moments like nobody's business.

I don't usually get this emotional over the thought of paparazzi, but Matthew meant a lot to me both growing up and as an adult, and not just as Chandler. Fools Rush In was my favourite movie as a kid, and I rewatch Studio 60, 17 Again, and The Odd Couple all the time.

This reminds me of when John Lennon was murdered and someone shoved a microphone in Paul McCartney’s face and asked him how he felt. All he could come up with is “It’s a drag” which was taken to mean that he didn’t care that deeply. In fact he was devastated and could barely find the words.
Social media is a nightmare. Don’t say anything soon enough and there are questions. Say anything too soon and get the tone wrong and you get flak. Whatever you say gets picked over for alternative meanings. You have to be so careful.
I absolutely hate whoever did that to him. It's obvious in the footage that he can barely hold back the tears. I think perhaps Americans didn't understand British reserve and that grief is a private thing to many people.
